Polycarbonate travel carrier/ Avian hotel

Hello, I am bringing home a hand raised BH caique. Wondering if I should invest in polycarbonate travel cage or Avian hotel cage. I may from time to time stay at a hotel and will want to take him in the car for rides as well. So which would be best? Can the polycarbonate travel carrier be used as a hotel as well?

We personally have one of the Caitec poly carrier and would never use that for anything but point A to B travel. Any type of small cage would be a great travel cage. We have travel carriers similar to the Poquito avian hotel at the shelter and they are used quite often for long distance travel when we are transferring birds in from places like Georgia and NY. Actually a bit of room for the bird to move about and space to have food and water bowls.

There is no question that the Polycarbonate carries are really nice!

I have only used the three piece small pet (cat carriers) available near everywhere. I have added a perch to the lower section (see JIY Forum) for our Amazon to perch on while we are traveling and have a travel perch when we are at a Motel. I have liked the three piece style carrier because they quick breakdown to take up less room for storing them, etc... Also, they tend to shield the Parrot a little better from Sunlight that tends to move around as the car changes direction. Also, the cost makes more sense for how often we use it.

I recently brought my baby home from the breeder and had the poly carrier and a cat carrier. The cat carrier worked well, as the bird felt secure and was not scared after the first few minutes. Had I used the clear poly the bird could/would have possibly gotten car sick, and being a baby felt too exposed since this was his first trip away from his cage. Once he is settled and you have a few car trips already under his belt, the poly may be ideal for travel depending on the size.

My 2 cents...

When the Rb was still a juvenile, I bought a Medium Size Parrot "Show Cage" and still use it today. It's covered on 3 sides, with bars on one side, and a big perch in the middle, also has water, food bowls. I think he feels more secure with only one exposed side, and it also keeps him from drafts or wind. I like the very hard and protective exterior. I doubt that my model is still made, but I found a similar-ish one.
