She's here!! Please welcome Jewel, our first parrot! She is one year old. She's only been here for 24 hours and she has everyone falling in love with her. She's is a sweetheart, and adapting quite quickly (I think). I am concerned with her feathers, but she has a vet appointment on Friday morning.

Congrats! My first dog was named Jewell (because I couldnt spell :P ) and your new Pionus is stunning! I can't wait to hear more about her!!

Jewel is beautiful! Love the Blue Headed Pi's.

Congratulations, Jewel is gorgeous! I have a soft spot for Blue Headed Pi's;)

Thank you everyone!! We are just so in love with her! We were originally set to get a Sun Conure, but the stars never aligned just right (so it seems with the breeder), so in my new search I stumbled across this beautiful girl. I think it was meant to be... We kind of have a zoo of animals over here, but most are not as smart or social as her. She is technically my 8 year old son's, but of course I put the idea in his head to begin with and will be primary caretaker. She is already a "family bird". She likes everyone, and even allows my 2 year old to pet her. (He waits for approval, and so gentle it's almost enough to make you cry.) I know many people think having a bird with small children is not a good idea, but I can assure everyone that I am Warden in my house. I run a tight ship, and all animals are completely respected and the kids NEVER torment any of them. (It's all perks of being a stay-at-home-mom, or it probably wouldn't work for us.) Anyway, thank you all again. We just so excited!! :)

Nothing wrong with having a bird with kids as long as you are there to supervise. I think birds can teach kids great life lessons.
