5 YO Red Sided Eclectus
I used the search feature on the forum to see if there was a thread on everyone's cages, but didn't come up with one. I would love to see the cages you all have. I just picked up a used cage (24 x 24 x 34) with a play top that will be adequate for now, but I want to get something bigger as soon as I can. I will be bringing our Ekky home tomorrow. I would especially like to know what kind of perches are a must and your bird's favorite toys.

Thank you!

I will Be more than happy to share a few pictures with you on my Ekkie's cage once I figure out the ins and outs of this new computer. But That 24 x24 x 34 cage is not nearly big enough for an Eclectus. Minimum cage size is like 40 x 40 x 60.

I've read so many different things on cage size. Our bird will be spending most of his day outside his cage. His cage will be mostly for sleeping. Regardless, this is a temporary cage. As I mentioned in my original post, I will be getting a larger cage as soon as possible.

Here's Puck's cage the first night I had him, but he has a lot more toys now. He likes pretty much anything from Birdy Booty.

I disagree with mtdoramike. My eclectus book says that the minimum cage size for an eclectus is 24 x 36. Most of the people that I know keep their macaws in a 42 x 36 cage, so 40 x 40 for an eclectus seems excessive. However, it also depends on how much time your bird will spend in it's cage. I have attached pictures of my cage for Roxy, along with her absolutely favorite swing. She also loves her "boings."

Rome has two, one at night for just sleeping in and one in her day area. Shes only ever actually kept in her day area cage if we have to bring it inside (which doesn't happen very often). This set up is to tie us over until we can build an aviary.

Ezmerelda's cage we bought from a woman who owned a pet store, but was going out of business and all her cages had to go. We got it for dirt cheap, and it is definitely bigger than she needs. As you can see it is dinner time for her, and it is about time that I make her some more toys. She LOVES to shred toys.

I don't have my ekkie yet, but I hope he likes his home I setup for him :(

Its 36 x 28 x 50 inside, and I don't have the seed catchers on it just yet because I need be able to get it through doorways to its permanent spot :D. There are several different sizes and types of perches in there, and just a few toys so as not to overwhelm him in the beginning. My Quaker uses, and loves her cozy. I have wondered if the Eclectus enjoys a cozy or tent?? Does anyone use cozy’s for there eclectus?

Just a word of caution, we have a similar cage for Puffin and the food bowl set up looks the same. I made the HUGE mistake of taking the food bowl out to get his breakfast and not closing the door when he was around 5 mths old. I left the room when someone knocked on the door and was gone for around 5 minutes. When I came back I nearly had a heart attack! Puffin had climbed into the compartment where the bowl sits and was well and truly stuck! We tried and tried to get him out and after a few minutes ( and a lot of bites!) we realised there was no choice but to unscrew the entire compartment and we flew to the vet where he had to be sedated to get him out. I warn everyone now when I see those compartments on how dangerous they can be.

We have a mixture of perch sizes and materials. The main perch is Wood and is large, she also has med/large pumice/concrete perches, and some natural branch perches. A must have for toys are wood block/rope knot toys that she can untie and chew! Also she loves her plastic c-links that I string together and she spends the day taking apart.

Thank you for the warning, thats a scary situation! In this cage the food bowls sit in empty rings that the rings themselves can slide in and out for easy removal (when the food doors are open, otherwise there is a guard when its shut) but there aren't any screws either. Do you have a picture of the holders on your cage? I guess I'm a bit confused.

just a quick question for remy. Is that skull on the floor a warning from Puck as to what happened to the last guy who came to close? Really nice cages and set ups, lots of great ideas thank you everyone. Alison and sweetie pie:D
