ACCIDENT? Please please please HELP!!!!!!! Quaker parrot wing

This is my 17 year old Quaker parrot, Rascal. He is a hardy little bird who has had NO problems until last year- 1 bacterial infection cleared from anti biotics & and he lost a small strip of feathers on his R wing (it was advised they prob wouldn't grow back).

A couple of weeks ago i noticed he was messing with his wing more/again and more feathers were missing. THEN a few days ago new blue ones started growing in again BUT one was a blood feather and the other couple are very tender when i touched them and his wing is VERY sensitive. As you can see from the pics they are not even straight they are at almost a 45 degree angle. I HAVE TAKEN HIM TO THE VET TODAY. Today the vet has sent in test for beak and feather virus & sent me home with anti biotics and pain killer (even tho all his bacterial tests came back negative) :( After he got home from the vet today (and his blood feather was removed), his balance is off and i have heard him fall from his perch a few times (still acting very sensitive to the touch on his wing). His appetite and personality are still the same & he is still lively it just seems like his wing is very sensitive & now his balance is off (he also keeps rotating his wing like a person would a sore shoulder). I am not sure if it is bc his wing is sore from all the poking today at the vet or bc the feather was removed- he has never had anything removed or any issues. the vet said after the tests come back, to do x rays. i dont understand why they were not done today, but anyways Any theories on what it is/what could be going on????????????????????? In the mean time i may go get him a terrarium to rest. Advice please. I am sooo upset this is happening :confused::(:(:greenyellow::greenyellow::greenyellow:

please help! These pics are from AFTER THE VET TODAY

DOES THIS FEATHER(VERY SENSITIVE) LOOK LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED??????? (BY THE VET- NOT ME)

I don't have Quaker experience. My guess is that if the blood work reveals a problem x rays may not be necessary. The vet may be trying to avoid unnecessary things. Either for your pockets sake or for the birds sake.

He is probably hoping the blood tests provide the answer.

Understandable. Does it seem like his wing may be sprained....the balance issue didnt start until he got home

I'm so sorry you're going through such worry with your cute little guy. I can't understand the reason the vet gave you antibiotics if the bacterial infection has cleared . I sure hope it is not PBFD.. Fingers crossed. Hang in there, I know it's hard to wait.

NNNAWW! Rascal is such a sweetheart, and such a beautiful Quaker!! My fingers are crossed as well that he'll be cleared from PBFD. If he's been your only bird all these years, and hasn't been in contact (nor you) with infected birds, I don't see how Rascal could possibly have it.

How is his balance now? I can see why the vet opted to remove the feather, as it was growing out form him quite uncomfortably. Perhaps misting him a little every day will soften up the feather shafts and make him a bit more comfortable.

Please keep us updated on your sweetie, will you?
