Lovebird
I came home today just to find one of my two lovebirds at the bottom of the cage dead.
I was completely heart broken, but then I had it removed from the cage. I put fresh food and water in the cage for the other lovebird.
My problem is that it is not eating and it doesn't look too well. The feathers are up all the time and the eyes aren't opening fully.
I also have an African Grey. The cages are next to each other and it also refuses to eat.

Please help me, I'm getting so worried...

Are any of the birds new? If not, have you used Teflon or other non-stick cookware? Any sprays? You may want to bring in the dead one for a necropsy to determine the cause and perhaps stop it from spreading. Sorry about your lovie :(

Go to a vet! A post mortem is also a good idea. An out of hours vet is expensive, but may save their lives.

Since one has already died the best thing is to go to a vet. I know it will probably be pricely but it is better than having the other die too! GL keep us posted please

Good advice above. An appointment (with an avian specialty vet) is definitely needed.

So sorry to hear :( please get your other baby to a vet ASAP.

I am so sorry for your loss:( I pray that the other 2 will be okay. Please let us know what happens at the vet.

So sorry for your loss! Since you're in JHB, I'd recommend you take them all to Ant's AV. She speaks highly of them and I'm sure they will be able to advise you. Good luck!

I was not able to take it to the vet as it was already buried.

My other birds are eating again and they seem to be happy

Thank you

I am so sorry your bird passed away....it's always such a shock.

it's time to take them to the vets to get the other two checked out.
get a necropsy done on the bird that died, (I paid around $100.00 to have them done)

it would seem what ever it is it's contagious.

please keep us updated.....I'll be watching this post.

The buried part doesn't cause a problem. The ground acts as an insulator and my vet said the necropsy can still work.
