Please Help me I'm confused

hello everyone ..... how r u ?

this is the first post from me and I want your help cuz I expect that u all have experience with parrots in general....

My name is Majed and I'm from KSA (kingdom of oil) looooool ....in my country almost all parrots are expensive for example ( african gray 1200 $ and DYH amazon 3466 $ )

I'm new in Parrot's world and I like parrots....Tomorrow I will buy one of these 2 types that I mentioned them above...... Please tell me which type is better according to their ability to learn more vocabs and sentences and less in moody >>>>>I want to tell me everything about them and final decision according to you if u are in my situation..... I will be happy and thankful for everyone will help me.


Finally...I'm sorry for my bad English (cuz it's my secondary Language) and also sorry for the length of text and untidiness of it cuz this is the first time in my life (24 yrs ) that I Participate in forum (only read in past).:30:

Welcome, Majed! Your English is quite acceptable and I hope you stay around and post after you get your parrot. I'm sure we'd all love to help you in any way we can.

It's hard to advice about which parrot is the best because that depends greatly on the person and what he wants and likes. I'm afraid I've never kept African Greys (usually called 'CAGs' or 'TAGs' here) or Amazons, so I can't help there. I can say that Alexandrines and Galahs are great parrots and easy to keep.

I'm sure other members who know your favoured species better will chime in and comment. Best of luck to you!

Welcome to the forum, no need to apologize for your English. You use your second language far better than some of our natives do. Parrots do have big price tags especially after you get them home. I don't have either of those species but a lot of people on this forum do. As far as talking, not all parrots are big talkers, but they do have the ability, it's more a matter of training and what they hear. Please post photos of the bird you choose. We're nosy and excited about your choice.

Welcome to the forum! I don't have experience with the two birds you listed but I can speak for two I have owned. My first parrot was a Cockatiel who lived for 23 years and talked up a storm. My second and current parrot is an Eclectus who also talks up a storm. Both were interactive and totally a blast to have in my life.

Go visit both! Whichever one picks you would be the better choice. Each individual bird is different like people. So when we talk about either side there would be different answers to your question and some maybe biased. Best way is to play with them and see what grabs you!

thank u all for ur answering my questions......today I will buy an amazon bird (either yellow naped or DYH) I think they are more beautiful than African Gay (I mean in color)......In my region (Arabian Gulf) and in my country (KSA) they preferred yellow naped amazon as a first in amazon ranking according to talking ability but when I searched in internet I see the european and american people place the DYH first then yellow naped second......Is there international classification that list parrots in ranks according to their ability to talk??

For me I like DYH more than Yellow naped (I mean by colors) but as you know both of them are expensive and the yellow naped is more expensive so I confused cuz I don't want to pay a lot of money then of them will be better than the other

Finally I buy a parrot (amazon yellow naped (1st class in yellow naped as a salesman said).......yesterday I tried to upload pics for my new friend but I was ignorant ( in uploading pics) but today I learn how


















I waiting your comments about my new friend .......Is it 1st class in yellow naped amazon??.......and also the man said that the bird is 6-month old, is it true or not?......final question : he give a certificate for the bird , what is the benefits from that certificate??

Majed, your bird is absolutely beautiful! Does he have a name yet? He looks in very good health and good feather, so you've got a great start in the world of parrots. What happens now is completely up to you. It will probably take a week or two for your bird to settle in and feel at home. Until then, be very quiet and calm around him so he doesn't take fright. You could try offering him some food treats through the cage bars so he learns to like you, but don't press it. If birdie is still nervous, let him be for now.

The more time you spend with your new friend, the more quickly he'll learn. It always helps to spend time just sitting by his cage, reading or watching TV. If you read aloud, he'll learn the sound of your voice and find comfort in it. Once you've spent a bit of time getting to know birdie, please ask your questions here. We'd all be happy to help you!

PS. You will want to find a much bigger cage for your bird. The one he's in will probably result in damaged feathers as it's much too small for him to stretch his wings. I found that out the hard way. My Alexandrines have very long tails and these were completely broken in the small cage they came in. I have a good cage now - about 2m x 2m x 1m and my birds have lovely long tails again.

Majed, I just noticed that your bird has sunflower seeds in his food bowl. These are rather like sweet treats for birds and may result in him getting a bit too fat. Try offering him fresh fruits and vegetables every day with only a little seed added. Most of us feed bird pellets, but I'm not sure whether those are available in your country.

I wish I knew more about Amazons, but I won't attempt to advise you further because I don't know much at all about their special needs. Again, please ask questions and other members will be glad to answer.

Thank you all.....especially (Betrisher) I will buy a bigger cage and I will change his food.....but both of us are afraid from each other (If I come beside the cage he is screaming now I sitting beside his cage and still comfort but if I want to change the place of his cage he is screaming again)

Congratulations on ur new bird he loves beautiful, however I can't really help you as I have have an african grey

Just speak calmly to him, read to him, include him in your daily routine. Move slowly and don't force yourself on him (by touching or getting him to come out when he doesn't want to) He's beautiful!

Those photos and your bird are just beautiful. Does he have a name yet?
I know talking is important to you so talk him all the time. Reading to him is a good way to bond and familiarize him with language. We have a five year old quaker who had never said more than a couple of words and he is learning new words every day from us and from one of our other birds. Try not to expect results too quickly. He will need time to adjust to his new life. Concentrate on making him comfortable for now. A roomy cage, plenty of toys to keep that beak busy and a good diet will go a long way to making him a happy well-adjusted companion. I don't have an amazon so can't help with a species specific diet but I'm sure others can help with that. It's good to introduce new foods as soon while he's still so young. Good luck to you both. I changed the cage and buy bigger one and also I changed the food..

I will name my parrot as (Bobby (my cat's name which is die))

Now I will put the Pics for (Bobby+cage+food) tomorrow I will buy fresh fruit for Bobby)

You will still need a cage much bigger then that! I would say buy sometime at least 3 times that size or bigger. That cage isn't really made for a medium sized parrot. The food part you should look for some pellets and start offering fresh foods (Fruits&Veggies) as well. But when you change food, do it gradually, not all at once!

As far as a cage for Bobby you'll need something MUCH bigger, thicker bars (with bar spacing no more than 1 inch)...this is my cage I had my amazon in, and I would consider it the minimum cage size for an amazon.

Dimensions for this cage are 23" deep 32" wide 29" tall for the enclosure but 60" tall altogether.

You should also invest in some stainless steel dishes or ceramic food crocks (like the ones in the picture)...the plastic ones you have may not last very long.

I also recommend more toys and different perches- dowel perches are bad for their feet and can cause problems.... Get some natural wood perches, rope perches, pedi perches, etc with a variety of diameters with a minimum of 1-1.5 inch diameter (their nails shouldn't touch).
