A lovebird called snowblau hand-tamed by myself
Hi,

Our bird Pike recently laid 2 eggs. However, I noticed for 4-5 days her vent is swollen. She is 3+ years old and has laid eggs before. Can you tell me what is the reason for the swollen vent? I am posting some pictures. Is there anything we should do? The bird is eating fine but sometimes I see her tail slumped beneath her wings in a peculiar posture as if the vent is hurting. She also is increasingly sitting at the bottom of her cage. Her diet and poop seems to be fine.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi lovebird_friends. I cannot tell for certain from your pics, but from your description it may be that your cockatiel is either suffering from a prolapse or possibly egg-binding. How have you been dealing with the eggs she's laid so far, and how long ago did she lay them? Have you been leaving them with her or taking them away once laid? Are you actively breeding from her or are these infertile eggs? In any event, if as you say she is showing signs of distress or discomfort, I would suggest she needs to be seen by an avian veterinarian as soon as is possible, the following list may help you to find one if you are not already familiar with one ...

I hope she will be ok!🙏
