So I didn't get pics of everybody who was enjoying our playtime today, but with 5 IRNs, three GCCs, a cockatiel, and a Pionus all out and about at once, I had my mind on more than snapping pics!
These "play pens" or "toy boxes" are a survival item in my house! They are actually "disposable litter boxes" from Walmart, and I toss in foot toys, old paper, and dry food into the bottom as well as whatever seems fun, like paper "grass." And the birds have plenty to keep them out of trouble... for the most part! I use 3 at a time in conjunction with the regular play stands and "cube" I already had.
I also wanted to share a picture of how I introduce foraging. I have heard many people suggest simply placing a paper towel over a food dish to start, but I have recently had better luck simply placing a high value treat (in this case, seeds) in a plastic bag. The bird can see the food, and it is easy for them to figure out how to get it, introducing the concept of foraging. I have included a pic of Maddie working on a bag. I only do this supervised though; in case they decide to actually eat the plastic.
