Hello all,

I am beginning my search for a pionus, a blue headed preferable but open to all others as well. I am open to either babies or adults. I live in the southern Ohio area but will drive or ship if need be.

I am hoping to fine one after Christmas time if at all possible.

Wishing you the best of luck in your search! I so love my Pionus:)

Thank you I will check out Hartman. Brightwood no longer breeds Pionus unfortunately.

Let us know how you make out. I'm always curious who are active pionus breeders, because I really think they are great pets and always want them to be in aviculture. Sad to hear about Brightwood. I hope you find your perfect pi!

There is a bird shop in New Jersey that breeds and hand raises their own birds, and they breed blue-headed pionus as well as other pionus varieties. I'll try to find the name of the shop for you, as I recall they were a very reputable shop. I was informed of them while looking for a Senegal or a pionus myself. I believe they are in northern NJ, outside of NYC. As I recall I was impressed with their facility and the number of species they breed, as well as how they breed, only once or twice a year per species, very clean, abundance weaning of babies, etc.

Hartman Aviary isn't breeding birds any longer. They still make the harness but the aviary was sold to Dale and Michelle Baker who own Bakers Nest Aviary and are located in Reynoldsburg OH. They're great people and have an extraordinary love for birds.
The phone number is (740) 877-3008‬ Baker's Nest Aviary | Breeding Hand Raised Parrots and Birds
Their birds are beautiful and healthy.

Side note: I have found that Pionus are VERY uncommon with rescues in the Northeast. I am not very familiar with breeders in this area (I'm in PA) but I did come across a Blue-headed in a bird shop in northern VA in November. But I did NOT approve of the shop and would personally NEVER adopt a bird from there... >_<
