Pinesol

This is what wikipedia says about the ingredients: "As of 2008, the currently available original formulation lists 8-12% pine oil, alkyl alcohol ethoxylates, sodium petroleum sulfonate and isopropyl alcohol as reportable ingredients on the material safety data sheet."

Personally, I wouldn't use it unless I knew I could rinse 100% of it off really well, and make sure I didn't get any of it at all on porous surfaces like wood and rope toys and perches, etc.

In a word, no. Aside from its chemical contents, the scent of Pine Sol is too strong to use around birds.

Being the moderator of a bird group does not grant expert status to anyone. In fact, I've been summarily removed from 2 different forums because I questioned the information they were peddling as gospell for use with birds.....

Like you did here, always check elsewhere for anything that might be iffy......

when I bought my Sun Conure, I asked about the cleaning process of a cage and I was advice by the store owner to NEVER use chemicals to clean a birds cage. She recommend to use warm water(I personally use hot) and a sponge to clean the cage. Also, I clean the cage daily.

I used bird cage cleaner and bird cage cleaner wipes. I was just concerned that Pinesol would be harmful.

Pinesol smells horrible, don't use it. Bird's respiratory systems are very delicate. My lory's nostils plugged up when I used Poop Off. So I don't use that anymore. Warm water is the safest.

Ugh I remember the smell of pinesol that my mom used to clean when I was growing up. It has a very powerful industrial "clean" smell. Can't imagine this is good for a birdie.

I use mild dish soap or vinegar and hot water.

I use hot water, and when I find a stain or stubborn food that I cant get with elbow grease I use some vinegar. It actually works really well. Birds are super sensitive, but I think its probably better for us not to be exposed to that stuff too! I dont think all those perfumes and toxins are good for anyone. I have a lot of allergies, and many of my skin reactions have disappeared completely since bringing Mango home. I think we will all be healthier people in the long run. We arent designed to live in sterile environments either, most of the microbes we kill with that stuff are actually beneficial. The really scary ones are unaffected by those harsh cleaners.
