Hiccup, Pineapple Greencheek Conure
Just this week, Hiccup has started screaming. It's this high pitched scream that I'm sure all conure owners have heard. It doesn't hurt my ears, she's not that loud, but she only does it every once and a while and it scares the crap out of me every time. Yesterday she did it five times while I tried to watch the last of Starship Rangers on Youtube and as I was going out today to feed and water the rest of the animals, I live on a farm, she did it again. I was just wondering if there is a reason for it. Is it because she doesn't like something or is it just a new way to get my attention?

It could be attention, in which case you should just ignore it. Ours has done this a few times (we've only had him a month, mind you), and we think that it was just down to sheer excitement. He can scream for a few seconds when we open or close the blinds.

Sounds like attention getting. what did you do when she screamed?
did you come running? I bet you did and that means she trained you. you will have to work at ignoring the sound and differ it to another sound that you can stand by making it every time you hear the scream don't turn don't react except to make the new sound hopefully she will start making that sound and if she does be ready to make a big fuss over her coping your sound.

my oscar did the same thing. i used a clicker to train him not to. pick a quiet sound he makes, such as a soft peep or whistle, and click the clicker and reward him whenever he makes that noise. now stand away from the cage, but still in his view and wait. if he screams, ignore it, if he makes the desired sound, click and walk back to his cage. if he screams as your walking over, stop and wait for him to make the right noise, then click and reward. gradually get further and further away and do the same thing. them do it from different rooms etc. eventually he will use that as his way to get attention instead of screaming. good luck :)

Thanks, my main problem is that her cage is by my head so it's a loud noise by my ear and I end up jumping everything out of surprise
