Pineapple Green Cheek Conure
I have a Pineapple Conure that is 7 months old. I want to get a Green Cheek Conure but I don't know whether my Pineapple Conure is male or female. My goal is to eventually home the two green cheeks in the same cage but to prevent them from breeding. Should I take the risk or does anyone know any legit places to get a bird's DNA tested in San Jose, California, USA for not too high of a price? :rainbow1:

Hi and welcome to the forum! Hope you have a wonderful time here! :) Looking forward to see photos of your pineapple green cheek conure! :p

If you really don't want breeding, I would say don't risk it. DNA test is the best way to tell whether its a female or a male, you might be able to tell from size, behavior, colour, etc, but that won't be 100% right.

Sorry, I can't help you much on where you can get a DNA test since I live in Australia. Hopefully, members who live in California can help you more on that! :)

My local pet store that sells mostly birds does DNA testing for $25. (I live in MA) Have you tried calling around? Vets will do testing, pet stores that sell birds, breeders..

Good luck

Yeah, I'm still looking around. I posted if any California members would reply.

Zoogen. Cheap, and in the same state! Just gotta send a sample to them! Shouldn't cost more than ~$26 to get the test done and ship them the sample.
