She's still half clipped, but I've been exercising her everyday and don't plan to clip her wings again because of Galah health issues. I have her fly about 10 feet to a big chair, any further then that and she'll sometimes fly in the wrong direction. She's getting much better everyday. When we first started she would be gasping for breath after one go, and now she can go 5 times and only breathing a little harder.

Rosie had been abused pretty bad, and she hasn't had feathers on her back or under her wing. They're starting to come back now but she'll sometimes take them right out or chew them. I've noticed that with flying she is biting/plucking less.

and a random extra photo because she's adorable XD

She's such a cutie! Those are some really good pictures too! Was it difficult to take them?

She is a beautiful bird! I'm glad to hear that you are allowing her to fly, it's not only great exercise but, I believe, good for their soul. She will get stronger, be breathing easier and more accurate with her landings before you know it! My U2 now does aerobatic moves in the air!

It takes several tries XD I have my camera on a 10second timer, so if she doesn't fly at the right moment she won't be in the right spot. This photo she flew too soon, it's still cute but isn't very good lol

yeah, it's so awesome :) She's started another wave of molting today so I hope she'll loose some more clipped feathers. Once she's fully flighted she'll have a lot more control and be more confident in herself. and definitely for her health, Galahs really need to be flown to stay healthy, with a good diet and exercise they can live to be 60 or older, unfortunately most web sites limit their life span to 20-40 years because most die of health issues.

Soo cute! Puck's wings are still clipped from when I got him. I'd love to let him fly, but he won't wear a harness, and he loves to go out places with me, so I'm worried about the safety factor.

Wow she is beautiful! I have never seen a Galah. I have seen a pic or two of a rose breasted and thought this was the same but she looks different than the ones I have seen. Very pretty and looks so elegant flying!

Galahs are the same thing as rose breasted cockatoos, for some reason people thought the Australian name Galah wasn't good lol. Many people in america still call them Galahs, it seems to about even with galah slowly becoming more popular.

Rosie looks different then the birds you've seen because she's a dark morph. I know very little about them and there's almost no information about the dark morph an the internet or in books. I've found one breeders site that shows photos of a pair they once had but sold, and a few photos here and there. I asked some parrot trainers about it and they showed photo's of the dark morph but only they're cheeks where the dark red color.

Here's a normal light morph

and then here's rosie.

And a light morph and the closest dark morph to Rosie flying.

I take Rosie all over, and harness training was one of the first things I did with her. At first she would chew the harness constantly and now she mostly chews on it when I'm putting it on and when she is sitting somewhere, like while I'm driving.

It can take a while, just keep trying and be calm and gentle. I started Rosie by putting it on her, then letting her wear it for five minutes or so then take it off. At first she chewed on it nonstop, so if your bird has a powerful beak they may destroy it during that time. I use the feather tether which I wouldn't recommend if your bird is good at unlocking things because they could easily come loose, or if they're a small bird. The Petite size is horrible, I had one for a cockatiel but after 2 tries I stopped because he'd tighten the part around his neck and choke himself. I don't regret using it with Rosie though, I figure this is the one she'll chew up and when I buy her the awesome aviator harness she'll not chew on it as much.

I love seeing people out and about with their birds! Our local Parrot club has social meetings, and it's great to see everyone get some fresh air and a good outing. Really excited for when their meetings resume!

Kudos for letting her wings grow in, we're doing the same with our rescue. Although I must say she's a pretty strong flier as is. She's only missing four flights on either side so we're just waiting it out!

as an owner of a galah that was clipped on one side when i got her last year it has been lovely to see pics of yours flying. My galah who i call mojo loves to fly and as his or her feathers grow back his flights are getting longer and more stronger. What a funny species. I am a first time owner who was bought up with pigeons but never parrots. I fell in love with this species when i first spotted one in my local pet shop who wasn't for sale but was fascinated with a bird that could talk and like a fool went guns blazing to get one and did major web searched and found one 60 miles away within 2 days of searching. Well to say i went in with my eyes closed is an understatement and at first really thought i had bitten off more then i could chew but with massive research and putting all my energy and attention into him i must say my life is very hectic but complete lol. He or she is very destructive as loves chewing my blinds, shelf's, sofas and his favourite is flying on us and chewing our zips on our cardigans but we wouldn't have it any other way. he is absolutely hilarious to watch, such an attention seeker. He much prefers men but will love being on me if hubbys not around. His not keen on the kids but mine don't bother him so his not concerned but if a little finger comes near him he will warn them. He loves eating potatos and prawn crackers as treats and screeching at the dog if she pays too much interest in him(my poor neighbours) he or she will be 2 in June and his trust with us has built up so much, its been an absolute pleasure to watch his confidence grow. He does not talk but makes the most adorable chirp when we say tickle. Still unsure of sex and i refuse to put him through feather plucking tests just for my curiosity. His eyes are medium colour so very hard to sex this way. I am now a cockatoo lover for life and cant wait to spend the rest of it with my lovely, cheeky, naughty, funny, adorable feathered friend.

i would love to harness nut an take her out, she is flighted and a feather chewer! but a year on an there are signs of improvement!

she is so nimble now she is familiar with the house, only thing she won't do is fly down stairs :)

rosie looks amazing and your pics too!

She is absolutely beautiful! I'm from Queensland, Australia and where I live there are wild Galah's everywhere. When you drive past a park you can just see flocks of them in the grass, or every where up in the tree's, it's an amazing sight! I love them, although I have never seen a dark morph before and it's very strange to hear them being called cockatoo's! :)
