RIP Pi - Sun Conure 02/06/11 - 09/10/11
So now that Pi has learned to fly, I sometimes find her in the oddest places. For example, I have a chandelier in my dining room. It's broken, no power running to it so for Pi its become a birdie jungle gym.

Also, she keeps hinting that she'd love to go for a ride perched on my bike basket. So not happening but a bird can dream.

too cute!! you could maybe make a top out of some cloth for your bike basket! :) THen you two could go for short trips :)

Too cute, are you harness training? Bike rides w/harness would be just the thing. Merlin used to do the same thing on mine. I secured a plastic coat hanger on it & he would hang out all day. I have a new one now so the coat hanger had to go.

I never would have thought of using a harness to let her go for rides with me. I'll have to look into it.

Actually I was thinking about the harness thing; as far as riding the bike with her in a harness, I mean. Something that really concerns me is this: couldn't she get tangled up in the bike itself? In the wheels or the chain, or whatever moving part? She flies pretty well but her landings are really iffy. She usually just kind of crashes wherever and I go scoop her up.

I think I'll still get her a harness but we'll use it on walks and not bike rides. I would be devastated if we had an accident.

That's what I was told too D: But I ordered Lucy's flight suit with a lanyard and it's short enough to keep the bird on your shoulder (it's a regular ol' lanyard with an attachment for the flight suit, pretty nifty idea) I think it'd be okay :) also, if I went and got a small animal leash (little cat leash or ferret leash or something) I can tie knots in the leash so that they're short, attach it to my helmet or something lol anything to keep the bird form reaching below your tush I imagine would be safe.

awww be great if you could take pi out an awww sooo dam cute! (an shuss dont tell nut!) lol

Does seem like it could be a real problem, didnt think of that. I have seen parrots riding w/their owners on bikes. Looked like they enjoyed it. They also make little carriers like backpacks, etc. Maybe that would be the way. You could start a new trend.:D

Rip out the old non-working chandelier and put up a hanging play gym is what I say!! Don't pretend that you think you actually OWN the home the birds are letting you live in. :)

Oh my goodness when we use to camp, my caique practically lived on my bicycle with me....he would wear a flight suit and I kept the leash short enough so he couldn't get tangled...he always stayed right on my shoulder...he LOVED it. We don't camp anymore but I sometimes take him for bike rides around the neighborhood.

Oh, I almost forgot....be careful with that light...is that something to be concerned with as far as metal poisoning? I'm not sure....I just don't want to see anything happen to your baby.... :)

I didn't even think of metal poisoning. Sheesh. Thanks for the warning!

Pi is too cute! The basket one reminds me of a local woman who for as many years back as me, or anybody else can remember has always had a dog riding in the basket of her bike. She's been riding that bike around for so many years, that it hasn't always been the same dog, but it's very cute!
