Oh mercy, pheob, this morning reading the Sunday newspaper, I saw an article on the fires in Greece! This is very, very bad ... and I worry for you. Are you near the fires??

The article said the fires are rampant and raging in forest and have completely burned entire villages. A mother and four children's bodies were found charred. I was in tears over breakfast to read of such happenings.

Please, let us know how you fare in this regard. I am holding you and your entire community and country in thought.

Have you been in drought for some time in order for the forests to be so dry and brittle? (I live in the high desert and the Rocky Mountains have been in drought for 6 or 7 years).

The article also reported that they are suspecting arson in many of the fires. :( Reporting 49 killed. How awful, just terrible. :(

Oh my that is terrible.

Are these the same fires you were telling us about a little while ago, or have you got more going now. Please take care Pheobus. We're thinking about you.

I was wondering the same thing the other day when I read about these fires.

Hope your okay and no where near these fires Pheobus.

Thanks everyone...

63 reported found burnt until now, many places that they cannot still reach...

These are the fires I was talking about a while ago, they have become double in size, disaster and number...I try not to watch tv, I cannot stand it anymore, it has been like 4-5 days that this is going on...
Horrible stories like that of mother with four children, we have heard a lot during this time but I think this one is....:( Sha was trying to escape when they stuck somewhere in their because the road was in fire, the kids were young 14 the oldest who tried to get away running and was found just some meters away...Imagine if a 14 year old couldn't run then who could?
I can post you a link of a national tv channel which has the news continously and you can see live what is going on...

http://www.uth.gr/main/index/
Go where you see the letters ET right down corner and press there..
The link is a bit slow via satelite, don't get disapointed wait a bit ...You will not uderstand the language just to see pictures...:(

Pheob you take care now,
I'm hoping that they are brought under control very soon. Hopefully with no more loss of life.

You are all in our thoughts.

pheob...you and your entire country I am holding closely in my thoughts. Just this morning found and AP article in the news out of Athens ... it said the tragedy was worse than reported yesterday.

Please take safe care of yourself and loved ones and friends. This is just awful. :( (((((hugs, tons of hugs)))))

Thank you so much all of you guys for your concern!

Thank God, we are quite far from the fires this time...

That's really scary! Please take care, I know you said you're quite far away, but still!

(((pheob))) ... surprisingly, we've had about 0.5 inches of rain over the last few days (that's a bunch for the High Desert) ... everytime it began to rain, I said a short prayer that the rains get carried over to Greece. If only it would rain, you just don't have the resources to manage so many fires of this magnitude :(

Anyway, I'm still holding you all close in my thoughts. It is a very sad thing.

Thank you Deanna!I wish for the same everyday! The weather forecast said rain for Monday!:eek:There will be nothing left....Thank God though the fires have been put out or made smaller in some regions...reported dead until now:64...:( The goverment has already started giving money to those who have lost houses, fields, livestock...
see... elections are coming in 20 days...
Thanks for caring! You are a wonderfull friend!:)

Pheob, what's the update? How are things going there? Are the fires getting smaller - I haven't been around a TV or paper lately, and besides, I can get an unbiased opinion from you!

:50:

Thank God Tex they are getting smaller! But the disaster they caused until now is enormous! Here see for yourself....

Thank God we were away this time..20 days before we had been in danger too...But all the people that had been there even soldiers trying to help people were crying like babies...This is what hell must look like...:(

I mean, really, did they figure out how these started ~ did someone anger Zeus?

I'm not sure...They said arsonists started them...They found some weird stuff where the fires started from...

Very glad to hear things are improving. This is such a horrible tragedy. I heard that they may have been started by land developers. How greedy are some people.
