What should a pet store provide with the purchase of a bird?

I have very few breeders around here and I would think shipping would be expensive and stressful on the bird. As well as no known rescues and basically only budgies, finches and cockatiels in classifieds. so I was thinking about buying from a pet store.

I was wondering what the pet store should do and/or provide me with the bird. I was thinking like nail and wing clipping along with a health guarantee. Is this reasonable? How long should the health grantee be for? Should their be a vet check involed too? Anything else?

Thanks!

Well I know Petco has an about two week health guarantee and return policy on their animals. Even if it isnt healthy or you just dont like it or whatever. As for the pricing of a bird I'm not too sure because I havent looked into that. With cages, the rule in general is that the bird should be able to spread its wings and be able to move around without bumping its tail, and bigger is better! Nail and wings clips might be provided but I know the petco here doesnt offer those services. Its something you really have to ask what they have. Oh and also in some states the length for a health checkup varies. I think here in california its 72 hours to get your animal to a vet for a health check. By law you can get a return for you money according to the laws where you live. Hope this helps :)

If they don't offer you a nail and wing clipping by default and some food I'm sure you can deal with them to offer it! Especially if it's an expensive bird!

Thanks, I definitely want a wing/nail clipping as well as a health grantee.

I know I am new here but I must bring up that Petco and PetSmart both get their pets/parrots from a place called Sun Pet Ltd. Please look up Petco Cruelty on youtube. If I were you I would buy from a breeder. That way you know where the parrot you bought came from. Just a thought.
