Pet store Budgie?

Would a pet store budgie be tamable and trainable? I would definitely buy from a breeder, but sadly I cannot afford a bird that expensive and pay for shipping too. If I could then I would go for a GCC instead.

So what I'm asking basically is if I were to buy a budgie from the pet store, would it make a good pet? I don't mind if it can't or doesn't talk. I'll have it's wings clipped all the time to avoid injuries, too.

I'm just worried that it'll always be a scared, aloof little birdy that is impossible to bond with or socialize and train with. I have no ownership experience, but I do have care-taking experience(volunteered with a local rescue where I did everything, even feed babies, and I work at petland where there are birds to care for).

Any advice or tips would be helpful! If getting a budgie from the pet store won't be worth it, then I will probably save my money for a future GCC instead.

Thanks for reading! Any tips or advice or suggestions are very appreciated!

Just about any bird is tamable & trainable. Petstore birds require a bit more work because they have not been handled, and are not used to human interaction. You should try to get a budgie as young as you can. And keep trying to get it to eat seed from your hand. Start with your hand inside the cage, moving it further out as you make progress. Birds not handfed as babies take a bit more work & patience to bond with. It can be done. I'm going through the same thing with a parent raised albino budgie that I recently got. It is slow, but, I don't give up. Also, do not overdo it either. Pushing the bird too much to do things will only make it afraid, and cause more damage than good. With all birds, you have to go at their own pace. Good luck.

They are definitely trainable but I have noticed a big difference between parent raised budgies and one that is actually imprinted on people. Here's a video I just took of one of our babies today(her soon to be mom is a kid and she is very impatiently waiting for her so I shot this quick lol), she is only 7 weeks old and you can tell, she just loves people. I've never been able to get a parent raised budgie to fly to me the way the hand feds do. I'm not saying it's not possible but I've never been able to accomplish it. It really just depends on how much time you can put in to it and getting a very young bird.

Thanks for the posts, everyone, but I won't be getting a budgie anytime soon. A couple I know gave me a baby hybrid conure, a Suncheek. c: I don't want to get more than one bird atm since I'll be going to college soon and I'll also be working, so I don't have all the time in the world to interact with more than one birdy X3
