So this is a perfect example of no matter how much the bird loves you or how long you have had them it will still bit you from time to time may it be an accident or another scenario.

Tonight I was putting the birds away just moments ago and I give them all night time scritches and so on, so i went to take baby to her cage and was giving he a night time hug and she just extended her whole beak around my bicep and crunched, I mean crunched me( I guess the food was more important as she ran in for food after I worked with the biting to make sure it wouldn't happen again). It sent a shock up my arm lol I mean it was impressive she did it, baby hasn't bit me since I got her from the abuse case almost a year ago and the bird absolutely loves me to death, but still tonight she had a wild hair to get her food and that ment it was my turn to learn to lesson about her beak.

I'm not hurt just letting you know i mean it's gonna be sore for awhile, and now I laugh about it even when I left the room and so on I laughed and said dang that was a good one( bird bites don't effect me honestly..).

Not trying to sound dumb just putting it out there for possible new owners your macaw or any bird may not mean it truly or just is tring t be focused on something else and ends up biting you and they are powerful so what she thought may have been a warning was a full on arm shocker.

-thanks, justin

Haha glad you weren't hurt too bad Justin!!
Perfect story!

I was bitten by Fargo when he got his leg caught, although he didn't mean to!

But i know the day will come when my little boy grows up and decides he wants to give me a bite :p that little beak is nothing compared to a huge horse who has the capability to kill you ;) haha

Not so much I'm not hurt it just doesn't bother me lol, my arm is all swollen and red were baby decided to leave her mark, I got scars all over my arms from these animals I love so much!

And yours is a great example to of just being In distress and biting because of fear!

Yea you and your horses worry me:p!

Thanks tab:).

Maybe she was just marking you as her property  Got any pictures for us to see the damage a macaw beak can do!? :p

Thanks! Hopefully no more incidents like that! When he matures and figures out what damage his beak can really do, that will be interesting :54:

And no need to worry with my horses :09:

Na I didn't take any photos of it lol, but she wont have anymore incidents I walked back in and said you know I'm not upset with you baby and she said I love you, goodnight:). She is very sweet and it was just wrong time wrong place ordeal lol!

O my greenwing has defiantly shown me what that big old bea can do since he hit sexually maturity, plus it doesn't help we rescued him as he was hitting it so we had no time to teach manners, we take it Alittle at a time with him, he is getting progressively better now:).

Haha well wouldn't want lil tab to get hurt by the horses:p.

Awwww you wouldnt be able to be grumpy at her ! :09:

What age do you think they start to get more aggressive? I know the hormones and sexual maturity can range from a large number of years, but is it like the terrible twos when they start to challenge you ? ;)

Fargo is a year and 4 months now, and still hasnt done a single thing thats aggressive straight from the word go, and hes getting cuddlier as he gets older, cause he wasnt a friendly baby haha

If they are trained correctly and know boundaries from a young age would that influences their attitudes and behaviours as adults?

Justin - Thanks for the story and the warning. A bite can come at anytime and when you least expect it. Body language isn't always there to tell you when. Sometimes but not always. I know first hand with my Grey. But his beak isn't so big! :D

Tab - I wouldn't want to imagine getting bitten by a horse!

6-8 is when they are suppose to start there maturity. But it can happen sooner.

And I believe yes that training from a young age helps the process a ton! If they have been taught manners and how to keep themselves content from day one the process of maturing is so much easier IMO.

Blancaej it hurts, alot more than being bitten by a macaw hehe.. they bite down on your skin with their huge teeth, i got bitten right in the middle of my back when i was younger, left a bruise about the size of my hand :p

Thanks justin, thats good to know! :D

Yeah, horse bites are terrible! I've never been bitten but I know people who have been. A lot more people have lost a finger to a horse rather than a parrot.

I copped lots of bites from Ringo, my alexandrine, in the first couple months. Then we bonded & he seems to have stopped biting me. He still uses his beak to warn/bluff and will latch it on to my hand etc, but doesn't apply any pressure...it's like he's saying 'I don't want to hurt you...don't make me hurt you!..." Except a week or so ago he was on my shoulder playing with a bottle top - he started to lose his grip on it, so he pushed it against my ear to hold it while he adjusted his beak grip...only he got the very top edge of my ear along with the bottle top & grabbed it really hard - Yeowch(!) that hurt. I think it hurt more because I was not expecting it, and the bite location didn't help.

Tab/Copper- Ouch! Bitten on your back! I couldn't imagine. Horse bites sound nasty. I did not realize they have bitten people so often. I didn't even think they would bite. Shows what I know.

Coral - What a terrible place to get bitten!
