Perch position in relation to food bowl

When we bought our cage, with 3 bowl that are in fixed positions on little doors, the main perch was not in place. It was just a plain dowel, so we decided to replace it right away with a natural wood perch. My question is that I'm not sure exactly the correct position for the perch in relation to the bowls for the most comfortable eating position for my Dexter.

Right now, I have the perch positioned at the same height as the bowls, so he's bending forward to the level of his feet to take food/water from the bowls. Should the perch be lower? I think it looks OK, but my husband continues to tell me that he thinks the bowls should be higher and he should not have to bend all the way down to eat/drink.

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I usually have the food and water dishes higher than the perch for ease of access.

I have the perch lower then the bowls, so that my african grey can easily step on the bowl when he wants to eat. I think most people have it like this.

Some of my natural perches have a 'bend' in them which makes it nearly impossible to have them go straight across the cage. So long as the perch is in the food bowls' vicinity, I'm certain your baby will find his way into the food/water dishes. :D

Thanks for your responses. I might move it down a few rungs and see what he does. As it is right now he seems to be eating fine, but I certainly want him to be most comfortable.
