Pepper, a Timneh African Grey
so, after having a water bowl on her cage being ignored, I decided a week without a bath was too long and she was gonna get a shower. I've been letting her perch on the shower rod daily so she gets some humidity. Today I brought her into the water stream and she didn't like it at all. She kept trying to get away. I got her back pretty wet but didn't want to stress her out so didn't douse her neck/head or try to lift her wings up. She was making the 'mad chicken' noise. So I put her back on the rod and praised her for her bravery and afterward she got an almond.

Then she seemed cold so I brought out the blowdrier. She tolerated it but was still a bit freaked out, so I stopped after a while.

Now she is giving me the hairy eyeball, will not step up or anything. I keep apologizing but she is letting me know clearly that was a bad move. Now it's hubby's turn to be the good guy.

Sorry, Pepper, but we cannot have birdies go dirty for too long. Hopefully she forgives me, I keep giving her fun food bits. She accepts the food but still gives me the hairy eyeball.

In all the years we've had Greys, ours never took to the shower. Paddywack allowed us to mist him with a sprayer pointed in the air, but his favorite was his Sunday morning bath in his waterdish, just after you changed the water (of course). Bindy, our 21 week old, just discovered bathing in her water dish this morning.

My friends grey goes crazy for a bath, he'll let your spray him until he's soaking wet, then as he's drying he flaps his wings really hard for a few minutes on and off before preening.

Ok, I think I'm mostly forgiven now. She's been sitting with me and preening and demanding scritches. Phew.

They are just like kids. They can't stay mad at us for long..lol

I haven't tried Bloo in the shower, and i probably wont as she loves a bath with the spray bottle :)
Glad shes forgiven you! :D

Glad Pepper has warmed up to you again.

In the beginning, when showering I let Mishka watch me, he refused to sit on a perch, and sat in his night cage.
After a few days, I placed him in the bath, with a little water covering his claws. I played with the water, splashing him occasionally. I sprayed the shower nozzle at the other end of the bath for a few days, not spraying him at all.
About the 6th day, I placed Mishka at the other end of the bath, and began running the shower nozzle the other end. He walked straight under the shower nozzle, and began playing.
When showering a bird, always begin by spraying the water from the back, by their tails, working your way upwards, telling the what you are doing. Mishka now tells me, lift the wings, and lifts them himself, and lets me spray there.

Below is a video of Mishka talking a shower and being blow dried
