Hey all,

I'm looking into what pellets I should get for my GCC Momo. I have been feeding the pellets from the breeder up until now and I'm not sure what sort they were because she gave them to me in a plastic container.

There's limited choices in my area and I'm mostly wondering what people think of vetafarm? I could certainly order online though! I'm hoping to find something that's not too expensive and that I can buy in bulk too.

Thanks!

What ever you decideupon, read the contents before you buy. If possible you want human grade ingredients, no sugars, and I dont like coloring . I;ve been using Roundybush forever, but brands like that may not be readily available down under. You give Momo fresh fruits and veggies too, I hope. Cute little parrot like that deserves the best. COngrats on your win BTW.

We order the big 5lb bag of Harrison's on Amazon for Yoda. He loves it. I keep the bag in the freezer to keep it fresh, and I have a 2 cup plastic storage bowl that I fill once a month, from which I serve Yoda's meals. That way I don't have to open the big bag very often and hopefully stays fresh better that way. Harrison's isn't the cheapest, but buying the jumbo size makes it more economical. Bird specialty shops usually carry it.

Whatever you do choose, as Al said, make sure it's good human grade quality and avoid anything with coloring. It will make his poop oddly colored and that makes it harder to see if something is really wrong or he just ate too many red pellets. ;)

Give Momo plenty of fresh veggies (finely chopped carrots, broccoli, spinach, bell pepper, peas, green beans, corn, lima beans, squash, or whatever you are eating. A big bag of mixed frozen veggies is cheap and easy if you don't eat many veggies yourself and that's better than no veggies anyway.

I use a mixture of Harrison’s, Roudybush, and TOPs for my flock. As others have said, avoid colored pellets and anything artificial. Make sure to feed Momo fresh fruits and veggies too! My GCC Kermit loves berries. Be sure to include a variety every day, and an easy way to do this is to make chop!

My birds get fruits and veggies all the time! They basically get a bit of everything (safe) that I'm eating haha. Momo has definitely been known to steal off my plate :p

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely have a look at the ingredients when I get to the shops (hopefully it'll be in the next couple of days but I have work). It seems like there's very little choice in shops around me so I'll do my online research too but it's super expensive for shipping sometimes so I'd rather have a local place haha.

Harrison's Bird Foods
I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. ty of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products. :)
The Rb has eaten Harrison's since 1987 or so...
