Fussy the Green Cheek Conure.
Hi everyone,
I have had Fussy my GCC for 8 years and he has lived a diet of seed, fruits, vegetables, grains etc but never pellets.
I have done some research and found that a lot of people are saying pellets are better than seeds.
What are your opinions? Should I be feeding Fussy pellets?

Zilla isn't a huge pellet eater. She likes her seeds, but she eats a whole array of fresh foods. 70% or so of her diet is fresh veggies, fruits, brown rice, wild rice, 15 or so different kinds of beans, whole grain pasta, birdie breads. The majority of her pellets are in her nutri-berries and then I have just started giving her some goldenfeast golden obles (they look like cheerios) and she likes them as a treat or I string them into toys for her.

There are lots of recipes for different chops and mashes and birdie breads on this forum if you do a search for them.

I have learned from my fellow members that pellets are optimum over a seed diet, the real key is VARIETY! I offer Nuti-Berries, pellets, millet sprays and a daily mix of a fresh chop of fruits & veggies.

The only pellets I can get my Macaw to eat are Fruitblend from ZuPreem He LOVES them Tried the Roudybush but he would not touch them

I mix the pellets with the Safflower seed blend . Plus fruit in the morning and Veggies at night. Of course he had corn this morning LOL

Yeah, Doodles not so keen on the pellet thing either! I have to hide them in birdie bread! Found good bird recipes on this forum.

I think in general for most birds the order of importance is:
Veg, dark green and orange are very good > beans/lentils > carbs like wholemeal pasta and brown rice > seed and fruit are about even
Pellets are great for the base of a diet, though I'd rate them more important than beans and lentils but not as important as veg, but I'd keep some pellets in the cage as a good balanced food. Variety is good for a happy, healthy bird but a balanced diet is the key at the end of the day.
