My Quaker was on a mostly seed diet when I got him (along with colored flavored pellets) which I changed out to Roudybush. Problem is he puts his pellets in his water! Its so freaking frustrating. I assume its to soften them for eating so today as i was preparing some soak & Feed for him it got me thinking... Would it be ok to soak his pellets for him? Obviously I wouldnt be able to give him free access all day like he gets with his dry pellets but it might help keep his water fresher while im at work? There is also the chance its such a habit that he will dunk whatever i give him in his water, soft or not. Any advice/help is appreciated.

My cockatoo dunks her pellets too. I have just been cleaning/changing the water bowl several times a day. I did wonder what would happen if I put another water bowl in her cage for her. I'm going to try it and see if she will keep one of them clean and dunk in the other.

I have tried that with no such luck. I have moved the water bowl further away and also without any luck.

I started squeezing his morning orange slice over his morning pellets and letting them sit for a few mins, he ate them right up and stopped putting them in his water bowl. I still clean his water 3 times a day because hes just a parrot that really loves to make soup, but he dosnt add pellets to it now :)

Another idea: see if he likes a water dripper like you use for bunnies and rats etc, that he can drink from but not stuff anything up the tube to soften lol. That way you know he always has fresh water as well as his "soup bowl" when you're at work.
