Sassy - 13 y.o. Blue Front Amazon, Cisco - 6 y.o. Sun Conure, Peanut - 8 y.o. U2
Fred - 2(?) y.o. Cockatiel, Ginger - 3 or 4(?) y.o. Cockatiel
Peanut has been very reluctant to come to me. Anyone, even my 6 year old granddaughter can pet her, but the only time she will step up (other than the one time she stepped up to hubby) was when she was spooked and flew in to another room and then she willingly stepped up to me with no problem. But from her cage she acts like she wants to, but then either hits my arm with her beak or quickly nips/pinches my arm. I don't react other than to tell her "no, don't bite". I know if she wanted to she could take a chunk, so I think she is still testing me. She will climb up on my knee or arm if I sit on the floor in front of her cage with a treat, but I don't want her to wander around on the floor...not safe. So yesterday I sat on the couch next to her and placed her tree close enough to me that she could climb over to me. I've done this many times before and she came close but wouldn't do it. Well last night, she climbed to the arm of the couch and then onto me. She pinched me a couple times first, and then climbed on my arm. WOOHOO! Of course I had a treat for her. But then she stopped eating her treats and just snuggled in and I was scratching/petting her head. She was actually laying in the crook of my arm with her little head on my belly and even closed her eyes while we were cuddling. I will try to post a pic (but don't look at me as I was in my jammies, and the pics are blurry because I didn't want hubby to get too close and startle her so he had to do a zoom pic)

I have started introducing the fids. Cisco couldn't care less and he and Peanut can (so far) be out of their cages at the same time. Sassy is getting better. She's very curious and tries to go to Pea's cage. She's not acting aggressive like she does with Cisco, but I still don't want her to go there and scare Pea, so I take her away from the cage and tell her "no". Last night she only went to Pea's cage one time right after I got her out, so hopefully she is learning. I think, possibly, someday Pea and Sassy may be able to be out at the same time, but no time soon...I don't want to have to get in the middle of those beaks:11:.

So, just had to share...

Hope I did it right...

It's so nice to see progress, and such a great feeling!

It is a great feeling! Hopefully it keeps moving forward like it did with Sassy!

Awww Leanna, I remember having a first moment like that with Popeye, I wanted to sit there forever. I'm so happy for you and Peanut. Thank you for sharing this sweet update. Love the photo.

Great pic of unconditional love as delivered by a Cockatoo!

Thanks...I have been working on understanding her body language as it is so different than Sassy and Cisco's, but at that moment I didn't have to wonder...;)

U2's have their own strange language, I know Peanut loves teaching it to you.

Yes they certainly do! :20: She is still testing me...but she climbed on me and cuddled last night too. She did step up to me once last night without nipping/pinching me first.:30: We will get there...she's been through alot so I know I have to earn her trust.

Awwwww yay! So sweet!

Thank you! Although I'm sad to say not much progress since then. She's only cuddled with me 2 or 3 times and still won't step up. She raises her foot like she is going to step up to me but its a trick!...when I put my arm up she pinches me with her beak...little stinker! I think she is pretty hormonal right now...as is Cisco. She really loves:32: her one toy and I don't know if I should remove that toy and replace it or not?? And I hope I don't get attacked by her if I remove it, like I did with Cisco...lol...she has a much bigger beak that Cisco! So the most sane bird I have right now is Sassy...who knew??:09: LOL

How are you doing with your flock??
