Parrots eye sight

I sometimes question if my Perjo has a focusing issue. When she's on my hand before bed time she doesn't always seem focused on where I'm trying to get her to look or focus. Even while I'm speaking to her from 7" away, she makes me wonder if she's seeing me very well.

I've moved my hand closer to her head and rather quickly and she doesn't react as quickly as I expect or as she does earlier in the day. I've come from above and the smae reaction.


Does it sound like she's got her attention elsewhere, anyone else have a parrot that responds this way?

She could just be tired at the end of the long day and not interested in expending a bunch of energy.

Anyway to check her eyes ayt home and be confident she sees just fine?

Eye sight is verified in full light. Check during the day and if there is an issue with responding, OK - time to set-up an Avian Vet visit with the proper tools to determine it there is a problem.

Nope, unless there is a note-able problem with the eye i.e. you physically can see something on or in the eye. Eyes are not a DIY thing.

Even with reasonable support lighting, at night, a parrots vision is reduced.

Personally, I'm going with tied and wants to go to sleep!

Well this morning tells me that she's just tired at night and might have her general mental focus on something else, b/c after she perched on my right hand this morning (she's not particular about what hand I use with her) I raised my left to stroke her back and she wanted nothing to do with it and snapped her head around and gave me a little squawk and nip.

She saw my movements just fine. She's in a rare mood this morning.

Some parrots have VERY poor vision at night.
Cockatiels and (I think) parakeet's for sure.
My theory is that it is because they can see in ultra-violet spectrum.
this leaves them less of the black & white (rods & cones?) detectors in there eyes to see in the dark.
My amazons don't have nearly so much trouble with low light vision.
