parrots are prey!

Parrots
Angel the blue and gold macaw, mimsy the lesser sulphur too, rocky the galah & willow the blue crowned conure.
just wondering if anyone knows why parrots are so brightly and vividly coloured, if they're prey shouldn't they be dull as not to attract predators? :smile024:
 
Are you talking of predators from above? I wont say that parrots in specific are colourful, most birds have awesome colours.:D Look at how beautiful the tiny sunbirds, honeybirds and kingfishers are, just to name a view. Remember they see each other in a complete different colour than what we do.;) Most predators from below are colour blind.
 
Lots of the colors that we admire are actually very good camoflage. The beautiful bright crimson of a female eclectus is almost invisible from the ground. Colors and shadows in thier native habitats are perfect to hide our lovely birds.
 
Besides the fact that most predators are colorblind, some small colorful animals are poisonous so that may help keep them safe also.
