I moved the pretty chicken towards the center of the house more and have music on, and she doesn't seem too bothered by it. I figure overall it's not too different a sound than thunder and that hasn't seemed to bother her much.
My parrots have never been bothered by thunder or fireworks (although we are not super close to where fireworks are set off - we can hear them though). Preen, play, snack, snuggle. They're all good. My brother's dog, though, is another story....
None of my birds have ever been bothered by it. There are a ton of people doing them right here in the suburbs, close by, and it's LOUD. Constant loud booming tonight. An occasional single loud boom has been going on for the past couple weeks, and tonight is not the last of it I'm sure. The window can even be open and the birds don't even blink. I know of people's dogs that have a hard time though.
We can expect them in UK from sometime in October as there is a Festival of Light around that time and then that follows into Nov 5 Guy Forks/Bonfire Night. Plum has been a little edgy on occasions but we usually act daft and "yahoo" after the loud ones and he thinks it is a game and relaxes. Hope everyone's birdies are OK?
Perjo did OK with it all last night. She seemed a bit unsettled by the screaming sky rocket fireworks, but today she mimicked the sound of a bottle rocket. So there is that.
Salty is not usually bother by the loud bangs of fireworks, having pretty much ignored constant cannon fire at the pirate festival I took him to. Last night though, was a constant thing in our neighborhood, and twords nitey nite time, Salty was uneasy, so I turned his favorite music channel on pretty loud and he went to sleep.
Hope everyones flocks were ok last night. Kiwi is wholly unaffected by fireworks. We were going to keep him up last night and bring him out in his carrier to watch them from our patio (he has, in the past, enjoyed driving and looking at Christmas lights so we figured he might like fireworks too). Unfortunately, they were not set off until dusk, which is pretty late here and the sweet little guy put himself to bed at 9 on the dot (whats a person to do). We got to see a great display! About 5 separate small shows were all visible from our patio! They kept going for a good hour too. Thankfully, people in this complex set all their home fireworks off on Saturday and Sunday so we didn't have to hear it a third night in a row right outside.
Ugh I wish it had passed unnoticed here alas I am bleery eyed and late for work today
The last few days there's been lots going off and no huge reactions from Gracie. Last night was a whole different kettle of beans starting around 3 with loud random really loud booms from neighbors... The worst being the ones that crack, boom & do the streaming whistle on the ground. Soo loud
Gracie took off in flight and panic at least 4 time (putting her in cage freaked her out) the first really bad one she took off from living room and ended up landing on kitchen floor. I am so happy I took the time to train both dogs with new commands when I got Gracie to have verbal control to keep them away from Gracie. i had also flew her around a lot with them being harnesses/leached with papa in control to desensitize them to that motion/activity.
Til now it's never been put to the test since Gracie stays put and they're trained to stay back from her area when she's out. They didn't react, pursue or even jump up in reaction to her panicked flight, they immediately obeyed the 'back... down.. stay' command (back is the command for them to back off and remove themselves from the area, down is nose to the floor laying down. Combined it's get under the coffee table nose to the floor and stay is wait till I release ya with a yummy treat lol) both jumped down off the couch and assumed the position & waited for their chicken jerky lol
Gracie allowed Megan to do a ground rescue pick up from the floor and bring her back to her cage lol hysterically she turned right to Megan and said "you stop that" .. What manners she has
The dogs oddly enough were super freaked by the fireworks this has never happened before matter of fact in years past they always go with us to the watch the displays. We can hear Disneylands go off every night so none of this should have been knew to any of them. Guess it was the super close proximity to multiple bouts.
The kids took the dogs with them to go watch the fireworks & they are apparently still fine with the noise if they are outside of the house lol weirdos
Gracie stayed home with me and we played the 'boom boom' game I'd warn her they were coming by doing her gazoo sound and saying boom boom weee then laughing and she copied it. It worked so at lead by 730ish she wasn't freaking out or jumping everytime.
Exhausting day! Got a lot of cleaning done tho since I could sit down and relax lol
Oh no, poor Gracie My bird rooms are soundproofed so they can't hear anything from outside, but usually Church, my Pekingese, freaks out. Luckily, they weren't as loud this year so all was good with us on the 1st.
