Hey everyone,
I have come here because I love birds and am the owner of a blue female parrotlet called Daisy and a blue budgie called Charlie.
I bought Daisy as company for my budgie because the shop owner said it would be fine
As it turns out, budgies and parrotlets aren't supposed to kept together. I was going to return her but gave it time and things have been okay between them
My parrotlet Daisy is less than a year old. She has learnt somewhere how to hop up on a stick. Perhaps from her pet shop trainer.
I keep the birds in the same cage however they really just live in the house. They fly around ALL day and I have little sections set up with toys and play areas.
Daisy has become very attached to my budgie and gets concerned whenever she can not find him. She makes cute little noises of concern.
Generally she is pretty quiet, very chilled and is a very observant bird.
I try to give her toys she may enjoy but all she seems to like to do is sit. Its weird. Is that normal? I have quite a bit of time with her in her cage alone and with Charlie the budgie. I sit there for an hour and chat and get her use to my hand in the cage. I hold my hand still with food treats. I have gained her trust to know that when I put my hand in the cage slowly with food, she will eat from it. She is still a little reluctant to having seed from my hand but she will eat millet, grass seeds and sunflower seeds if I approach slowly and be patient.
I am afraid she is too bonded to the budgie now. I play the "kids" music while I am out of the house but perhaps I give them too much freedom as they are not in the cage most of the time.
They both put themselves to bed in the cage at night time so I cover them up and let them out in the morning. I will also give them some sunlight every couple of days and put them outside in the cage.
She bites my hand from time to time when my hand is in the cage but I CAN NOT get her to sit on my finger. I can still tell she doesn't trust me and still acts with caution every time I come near. How do I change this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
