We're getting tented for termites, so everything living had to leave the property. My family took it as inspiration to take a vacation and I sorted out all the animal's living arrangements.

I've never missed a pet so much on vacation. I know the dog will be okay. We have a close family friend looking after the dog and get daily updates. The dog is also incredibly social and loves just about any human she meets. However, since parrots require far more specialized care I had to get the bird boarded at a local bird shop. I have a lot of faith in the care they put into their birds and know she's in good hands. I just WORRY and MISS her so much. I've left her for a few days before, but always under the watchful supervision of my mom and in her familiar environment.

The poor thing got carsick on the ride over. I don't think it's true carsickness persay, but just anxiety from being in a car. I wish I'd been able to work with her more on her car sickness and certainly it's something I will work on.... but then after getting sick in the car, I had to drop her off in a strange place she's never been too and get grabbed by a lady she never met. When I said goodbye she wasn't even mad. She just gently nipped my finger when I reached out to pet her beak.

</3 Vacation will be fun but my heart won't be whole till the parrot is home and happy in her cage and with her favorite humans again. :green2:

I haven't seen my mom in over six years. She lives in CT and I used to visit her several times a year. But I haven't seen her since I got Skittles. I just can't leave him. Even though I have someone who'd care for him (I trust her with my life), I just can't bear the thought of being away from him. We've never been apart for more than four hours (if you don't count sleeping). God forbid something should ever happen to him. I don't think I'd survive that.

I don't sleep WITH him! He has a sleep cage right next to my headboard. I just mean when I am asleep, I'm not awake. So while he is physically in the same room with me, when I'm asleep; psychologically, I could be sipping Mai-tais in the Caribbean with the cast of 'Rio'.

Two reasons I DONT do vacations ( except maybe a "day" trip on my Harley)..Amy and The Beebs...

Update: I called the place I'm boarding the bird, and the parrot is evidently having a great time. She's very active and playing with all the toys I brought from home (the employee who put them in thought it a bit strange to bring 5 toys, but I figured that was MINIMUM and I'm glad I did). I can just picture picking her up and giving me a very intense birdie stare like "I didn't miss you AT ALL. Now appease me or face my grumpiness, human".

In all seriousness, I guess a very stimulating environment like a pet shop would be a good way to keep her occupied and ensure she doesn't get depressed. In any case, I'm relieved she's so well adjusted. Moreso than me, it seems X)

Why not Skype the shop, and let your parrot see that your alive an stuff? It helps Salty when I'm in China for 2 weeks at a time.

My dad is turning 75 in August so I'll be leaving sweet Bumble for a few days. My boyfriend is coming to stay with her, and we've been spending time letting them get to know each other (he feeds her millet every time he sees her so she loves him LOL). And I've started telling her that when I go away, he'll be with her and she'll be safe, but I'm still a nervous wreck.

Last night was just further proof I can't leave Skitty alone too long. I went with a friend of mine to the ER (she needed to go) and we left here around 3:45p and didn't get home til about 9:10p. But we stopped for pizza takeout on the way. I hadn't eaten all day and I KNEW I was going to have to come home with 'something' to sooth the 'angry bird' that awaited me.

Normally, it only takes ten minutes for them to cook a pizza, but we were there for nearly 15 minutes before they even put our order in. When I found out they were just putting it in, I asked how long and she said '7 minutes'. Had she said longer (like 15-20) I would have said, 'nevermind, just give me my money back'. But I waited. I sat down next to my friend and I was all jittery and impatient (which isn't normally like me). As hungry as I was (I had a major headache because of it)- the ONLY thing on my mind stressing me out was getting back home to Skitty.

When I finally did get home, I let him right out and he took off and ignored me. When I went to give him some pizza, he actually took off to get away from me which is NOT like him! After he flew around a few times, he went back to his normal self and had some much enjoyed pizza! Then all was back to normal. He's actually hiding out inside my shirt as I sit and type this.

I actually think I need Skitty more than he needs me. It's scary. I mean, five hours and I'm about to lose it?

The parrot is home !!
Honestly I don't give Kermit enough credit. She was SO happy to see me, and I mean SO happy, that she was chirping the entire car ride home. Bear in mind when I dropped her off, she was so anxious she threw up a bit :'c The good news is Kermit is a good bird, and she's not so much carsick as anxious of cars so it's something I can work on.

Once she came home she started grooming herself nonstop. She had a bunch of poop on her tail feathers, probably because they didn't place the toys right in her cage so the poop would land on them and she'd brush against them. And also I doubt they provided her a bath. Anyways between me scrubbing some off (as much as she was happy to see me, she still bit me hard for that) and a bath in her water dish, she's shiny and clean.

I'll keep an eye on her to make sure she didn't catch anything from her stay at the petshop but I'm happy she's home ! The only thing I've noticed so far is how HYPER she is, but I think that's just excitement haha.

Glad she's home and glad you both are doing well and happy!
