Wondering if anyone has thought about adding a group or page on facebook? I manage a page or two, they are not so hard to set up (in other words I can do it ;) Would anyone be interested in doing something like this? I think it would be another nice way to connect with fellow fid families.

This is something that our Administrators would have to approve AND initiate, especially if it's linked to this particular forum. :)

Oh right, that is why I brought it up here :)

I'm not on facebook, and it's really lovely to know that there are online communities without dealing with all of the crap that comes with facebook. It would be a shame if less happened here because more happened there...

I see a lot of pro's and con's in doing that. Linked to Facebook I doubt you would control what is said, or block trolls. Though sounds Like a good Idea, but, but not everything is controllable linked to facebook, but then That's up to the super moderators.

Seems to me it would be a bit redundant, no? Anyone who wants to post to this forum can do so easily. And there are groups here as well.

Beautifully said, Stephen. Yes, VERY redundant indeed. The thing is, FB would be extremely difficult to control. Anybody and everybody could sign up, and neither we nor Admin would know who these people are.

Looking at the amount of scammers and spammers we regularly 'take care' of on this forum, FB would probably be a VERY bad idea since there is no way of checking folks.

Additionally we'd potentially lose traffic here, and that is most certainly not desirable. :)

I stay away from facebook all together. Just a personal choice. I like this site as is. This is about as high tech Internet that I get. I still have a flip phone!

FB wouldn't allow or have the personalized interaction of this site. I am a participant on an FB group called "we love parrots" which is good but there have been some questionable things posted there. This group on ParrotForum here, is much more in depth, not so much "look-at-me!!!!", it's a small percentage of that, but tends to lean towards the actual relationship and actions between our fids, like training, feeding, playing, hygiene, and cleaning, etc to name a few. This site is is in the weeds, working with fids and their parronts where FB won't cover that deep of information. Make sense? I love talking and sharing on this site, talking and searched have served my fids and myself very well.

As already stated, it would be a bit redundant to have a FB page for this site ~it would be loads more work on our end (the mods- btw we're volunteers) keeping the trolls and spammers under control-- worse than battling orcs in middle earth. Plus, then there might not be a need for this site.....

I've heard too many horror stories about FB groups, and I believe we have an excellent thing going here.

Absolutely! I belong to a very old aviation enthusiast forum that is nearly dead, in large part due to a FB page. It is seemingly so seductive communicate with friends en masse, though the level of interaction is shallow. Yet other forums thrive without a FB page - a key to success!

Really! I thought it was a wonderful idea! I have a lot of Facebook friends that have parrots and it would bring a wealth of information for us all

I actually mod a few Facebook groups, and with the right settings it isn't hard to keep away the trolls, and I wouldn't expect the current mods here to do that, I would absolute volunteer for that role. I am in contact with a few parrot owners who don't like this format, so I think both are valuable. And Facebook may reach a young generation of bird owners that are looking for help. But if the mods are against it, I won't push it anymore :)

Admin is the one who chooses the formats (like vBulletin) for their privately owned forums, such as this one, so that we can't really change.... Sorry [emoji51]

I just think it would be detrimental to THIS site if there were a Facebook page/group as well.... Yes, Facebook is popular, and it's geared to a younger audience -but everyone knows how to google, and this site still shows up in the search results ....plus the age of forums is not dead. Forum Foundry owns tons of different forums as well as this one and they're still doing just great.

I also agree that it would be redundant to add a FB page for the forum. Just my opinion, but the way the forum is set up works so much better than the FB groups I belong to. I find it easy to search for what I'm looking for here, and I don't find the FB groups easy to navigate at all. If the traffic was diverted to a FB page, the people not interested in using FB would be the ones losing out on all the wonderful information that is posted here on the forum.

We thank you for your offer. :) Unfortunately Moderators are not chosen by simply raising a hand and offering to volunteer. It's unfortunate that a few parrot owners don't like our format. It's impossible to please all - that much we all know.

This thread will now be closed. The subject will be brought to our Administrators' attention, and once we hear back from him, I'll let you know of the decision. :)
