Yesterday I was out going round pet shops, and looking for a birthday present for my Nephew. I came across a gift shop right next to a pet shop, what could be better!!!
The gift shop had loads of signs up saying how they donated money to wildlife charities, when you bought a soft toy. We went in and had a look around, went and looked at the soft toys, they had all sorts, teddies, panda's and parrots, I was looking through them when I found a larger one, a macaw, I turned it over and was horrified, It was called the smoking parrot, and yep it was smoking a cigarette.
I spoke to the manager who didn't really care less, after a lot of arguing I walked out making my mind up that I would find out who owned the shop and write to him, also see if I could find out who made these things. I walked out in a real bad mood, went into the pet store, who happened to sell parrots, he has been trying to get in touch with the owner to complain. He has spoken to the manager and got the same response as I did and many others who have complained about this.
The outcome of all this is that I emailed the owner last night and he emailed me back with his phone number. He couldn't believe it, and was adamant that he would never sell anything like this. I phoned him up and it is his Son-In-Law who runs the shop. He promised me that he would find out what he could and would I call him back later on today. I did that this afternoon and it seems that his SIL had these things made and was selling them and pocketing the money. The owner has parrots himself and was horrified and has sacked his SIL, the worse part is the owners daughter was the one making these things. Everytime the owner went to the shop the SIL knew when he was coming and took the horrible parrots off sale. I have since spoken to the pet shop owner who has confimed that the parrots have gone and so has the SIL. :04:
