Parrot stares into space

Hi all, I hope you can help me. I have a parrot. He's only young 2ish and generally in good health, as far as I can tell, but occasionally he stares off into space. This doesn't usually last very long, but he often doesn't respond to me.
Is this normal behaviour or could there be something wrong?

1. What type of parrot?

2. Did he appear to be having a seizure-type event?

3. If not, was he mad at you?

4. Was there something new in the room, or outside, that he may have been frightened of? (i.e. fear of predators, don't make any sounds or sudden movements. Hope "that thing" goes away.)

Number 4 would be my best guess unless the bird is an Eckie... (If you're bird IS an Eckie... yeah, they do that sometimes. It falls within "normal.")

Patrick the Senegal, right?

Sometimes my Pois will do that too. I have to call them a second or fourth time "hey, over here!" *waves hand* then they'll snap out of it and look at me. I know what you mean Mark about the Ekkie stare, similar thing here. Why, I really don't know. My best guess is maybe #4 above. I've never looked into it because I know nothing is "wrong", but both mine will do it more than my Pionus (my Pi only gives me dirty looks lol).

Personally, I think they daydream.

I don't know how you'd ever prove it.

My parrot zones out like this at certain times of the day. I assume she's taking a little nap. Sometimes she puts her head down in her wing but sometimes she just chills out.

Yep, Patrick the Senegal. Thanks for the information. Sounds relatively normal then. I wasn't hugely concerned, but thought I'd check as he does it occassionally. Most likely something has caught his attention.

The macaw I want to adopt does this sometimes too. Only stick your hand in his face if you no longer like your fingers when this happens with Red lol.

Totally agree, Mark! I've noticed this a lot, but it doesn't take much to noticeably watch them refocus.

Because parrots are generally creatures of prey, they expend a lot of effort scrutinizing their environment. Perhaps they just zone out for a bit when feeling comfortable and safe.

My ekkie does this. No doubt whatsoever he's daydreaming. Waiving my hand in front of his face for the first five seconds gets no response.
