OMG!!! I cant believe wath i saw!!!
My husbands boss invited us to his house for a bbq, so we went and found out he had 2 cockatoos, and since i love birdies i was so anxious to star asking about them. I asked him and his wife since they both were there the birdies names and right after they said the names the wife said, he smokes with me!! I was
Like WATH??!!! WHO??!!! and she reply The parrot!! And walked over to the cage and lighted up a Weed cigar and the cockatoo walked and stood infront of her and open his beak, then she proced to take a hit n blow the smoke at him, he cought it closed his beak and holded it in for a bit and let it out... I could believe wath i was
Seen :( i think is so wrong to do that from her!!! :white1::confused:

I am so disgusted, I do not even know what to say, best I keep my mouth shut
I would certainly report these people...............

Birds tend to become shadows of their owners for better of worse. Some drink with their birds...

I have a coworker who knows i have birds and he laughed and said his wife had a bird when she was in college.........they used to smoke pot and blow it at the bird.......also proceeded to tell me of the bird getting stuck to that sticky fly paper stuff. I wanted to explode but was just glad that was many years ago and they have not had birds since.

Just as vegetarians often view meat consumption as barbaric and sick, so will pet lovers view such nasty events.

Still, I'm very surprised that a bird would want to inhale smoke; few people took that first drag and thought "mm, that's really good".

CALL ANIMAL CONTROL! if they dont do anything alert the police this must be stopped for the animals sake its terrible for it and it could die!this is awful!

The first thing that popped into my head was "Oh, those delicate little lungs" :(

They have no business keeping those cockatoo's. Just makes me sad to think people think it's funny and cute but deep down, it's abuse.

I believe if you contact the ASPCA in their area, they will be very interested in this. I consider this animal abuse, just like I would if the bird were a child and I witnessed this. I would be on the phone in two seconds. You could bet, I wouldn't be invited back to their house again:)

The people that I got Mac our Eclectus from were smokers or at least the husband was. He later died of a heart attack. He smoked a lot and to the point that he suffered from smokers cough badly. Mac picked up the smokers cough and will often hack and cough as though he's trying to hack up a lung. It's funny, but sad at the same time. There is no doubt that he smoked in his office, where Mac spent quite a bit of his time and where Mac's cage was located. So I'm sure Mac got more than his share of second hand smoke. Fortunately, he's in a smoke free house now though.

Just that someone would even consider handing a bird a cigar or cigarette makes me want to puke!

Um..... I don't think I need to reply here... you know my views

You know, I've been thinking about this thread literally ALL day.

Please, somebody tell me I'm hallucinating, or reading too much into things....but for SOME strange reason I have this thought in the back of my mind:

TROLL.

Definition of Trolling:
http://www.parrotforums.com/off-topic/11387-internet-trolling-reposting-new-members.html

We - as parrot lovers and guardians ALL know better than this (the smoking thing), so WHO would publicly post about it, knowing darn well it will cause more than an uproar?

....just saying...and 'nuff said....:54:

I hear what you are saying.... you are in a very difficult situation.

Could you report him, not mentioning your name, i know this is a long shot, but what you to lose?
:grey:

It's not the first time I've heard of it happening...

I recall a story of someone who took in a cockatoo from a smokers home. The person who adopted the cockatoo was not a smoker, but the cockatoo was so used to the nicotine/smoke that the person had to wean the cockatoo off of cigarettes. This was done by taking the bird outside and lighting up a cigarette for a few minutes. After a while, the person was able to light cigarettes less often and was eventually able to stop. I don't recall if the bird was addicted to the action of a human smoking or perhaps it was the nicotine? Wish I could find that again!

I don't know if it's something that you can report, and if you do, chances are they'll probably know who did it... but I would suggest doing something to try and get the owners to stop smoking around their birds.
