We are now in a level of sound of which sustained exposure results in hearing loss and immense pain.

This level of sound can cause permanent hearing loss in only a short exposure time. This sound level causes HIGH amounts of pain, with the exception of the deaf, hearing impaired and those used to hearing these sounds.

Surprised about the conure? That was a nanday conure. Louder than a jet airplane taking off at 100'! The rest of them are rough estimates, according to the dB rule of 10=2x, and my experiences of me experiencing some of these screams... Props to those with loud screamers... get your hearing aids ready! Bird health and supplies aren't their only bill! :53:

I've never personally measure db of a bird scream...Very interesting and as this proves my point about how I can not stand Conures with their high pitch scream...lol...

Can I ask where did you find all this information? It's very interesting!!!

I had many resources, such as my own equipment, books I own, and personal experience. Some of them are estimates, already knowing sound level of different screams in correlation to different species helps me estimate using the rule of 10 dB=x2... every 10 Db is double the sound. here is a great link to sound comparisons to give you a better idea. thankyou!...I had posted a thread not to long ago about the decibels that birds can reach with their screams/calls.

when I say Ninja is loud, and makes my ears ring....trust me he is LOUD!!
Nandays and Gold Caps are approximately the same size, so one could assume they have the same ear piercing call.

Which is why I quickly ran from the suggestion of a conure 2/3 years ago...

I'd still like a 'too, but I will not be adopting a screamer!

No body wants a screamer....yikes!
But if I had to choose between a loud bird and one that bites, well, I'll take the loud bird.

Even though Ninja has his moments of screaming(which I am currently working on), he is an absolute puddle. this bird is not a biter, not a mean bone in his beautiful body, he'd rather back away than bite. he has a heart of gold, and I trust him completely.

I knew he was loud when I brought him home, I just wasn't aware of HOW loud.

so I accept him with the good and the bad because I love him.

I disagree with it somewhat.

Cockatiel chirps are very highpitched like a nanday or sun conure. Ear piercing!

I also think Ekkie and Pionus and amazon screams are almost alike. Very loud and highpitched.

Some macaws are very ear splitting too.

I prefer my cockatoo screams. My Umbrellas are not as high pitched as a Salmon Crested cockatoo(M2).

oh my georgie......seriously, i have immense patience in general but there were times i wanted to cry when she had a bad day of squawking. It is the particular shrillness of the suns that really gets to you. I guess i'm a glutton for punishment, but i still miss her and would get another one.

funny you should mention the pitch. I was mentioning this post to my daughter Sarah this morning, and I was saying the too's are loud, where suns and other conrues have a very high pitched call, which really hurts the ears.
Heck even my cockatiels can hurt my ears at times, so I know what u mean

You need to use special equipment. I would refer to them in a google search as "decibel meters", just google, there is apps for it (not sure how accurate it is) but I use actual meters. Not very cheap though :/

Hmm.. I still think conure and cockatiel is pretty much the same noise level. You can go deaf (obtain hearing loss) to a cockatiels chirp.
