Hi Guys,

So myself and my other half are going abroad for a while and the birds will be staying with the parenst in law.

They are great with them, but i'm still extremely overprotective of my little ones... I was going to board them with the vet for the time, but my other half talked me out of that since it's a bit of a costly affair to do that. none the less, no one looks after my birds the way I do so ( I know how that sounds, but it is what it is :) ), so i'm abit edgy.

I'm compiling sort of a manual, with their food habbits, the medicine routine for Bandit, and just their every day habbits and rituals, to try and keep them as much the same as possible.

Any tips or advice that i should mention? what would you write if you had to leave your birds in someone else's care for a week and a half :)

Hi Rana!

Only less than 2 weeks ago I left my babies with a live in petsitter (son's GF). Even though we were only gone for 3 days, I was a nervous nelly about the whole thing.

I had written up and printed out DETAILED directions and plastered them on the fridge. On the very top of the printout were phone numbers. Mine, the husband's, my next door neighbor, my GF's who used to breed birds, AND my Avian vet. ;)

I literally wrote down my entire routine with them, MINUS taking them out, because they were not allowed out while we were away, out of fear she wouldn't be able to put them back in their cages.

I had the food prepped in the freezer and fridge, and premade cups of dry food, which I labeled day by day. The containers in the freezer and fridge were also labeled.

Everything was written down in details, from lights on to lights out, what music to play, etc. I also have a Wordy Birdy, and recorded a couple of cutsie phrases for my fids to listen to during the day. :)

You're right, NOBODY can do a better job with our fids than we do - but overall Nikki, my petsitter, did a phenomenal job. :)

Wendy, you have NO idea how relieved i am to read that! :D
I just made a PDF manual as well with the whole routine, a list of toxic and safe foods etc, The will be in their little travel cages for a week so i don't mind them being taken out but i wrote in big letters to be careful with open doors/windows, fires and cookers and basically anything that could hurt them... ( OMG is this what it's like when I ever have kids???) hypothetical pre-natal panic!

I wont go labeling and cooking their food, i honestly think they'd be offended if i act as anal as i feel about it :D i'm really trying to contain myself.
