Hello,

I got my grey parrot since two weeks, I've been feeding him nutri berries. I see that a lot of people are making things from recipes and such, so I got a few questions about what kind of food you can give a parrot, and how much.. Should I make recipes everyday too, with vegetables and such? I read That you should feed your bird twice a day, but if I see this.. http://thehappycockatoo.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/moroccan-salad-1.jpg haha that's way more then I give :) hope someone can help me and my baby parrot :D

Diet can be a controversial subject.... from feeding seeds vs pellets, to feeding fresh foods, and in what quantities.

I've made a thread with some ideas on foods hat you can feed.

When people think of a "fresh food" diet, many think about veggies and fruits. Although it is possible to create a 100% fresh food based diet, the birds still require grains and legumes. Many grains can be fed sprouted or cooked, however depending on the legumes, some can only be fed cooked for human consumption while others can be fed either way. I only recommend feeding legumes that can be sprouted, since these tend to have less toxins in them than the beans that *must* be cooked in order to feed them. --- And of course the occasional cooked eggs thrown in there.

Some people may feed 20-50% of the diet as "dry foods" (seeds and/or pellets) with the rest being made up of fresh and cooked foods while others may feed 75-90% of the diet as dry foods and the rest being fresh and cooked foods.

Although fresh food is always 100% the best food to feed, I create a mash kind of diet that includes grains, legumes, vegetables and some fruits. I've taken to freezing it in ice cube trays to make it easier to dish out a specific amount so I only need to thaw "X" amount of mash for the entire flock. In this way, I don't have to worry about food going bad before I can use it all up.
