Recently, they'res a hurricane called hurricane Sandy in the U.S . They are saying its a seriouse one, they are evacuating people from beaches . It's also hitting smack in the middle of long island where I live . I thought I could make a thread for people who are going to experience Sandy and for people who want to help they're birds in case the unthinkable happens.
1. Make a bird diaster kit, put a water bottle, a bag of seed,pellets ,paper towels ,food bowls ,canned fruits and veggies, can opener blanket, avian harness, powder in a case labeled " Bird Emergency Kit "
2. Make a sign signals rescuers that you have birds in the house , it would be better if you made one that had a description of each bird. Put " please save my birds ! " on the sign
3. Keep a large, emergency only travel carrier next to the kit.
4 . Keep a towl in the emergency travel kit if the bird needs toweling during a evacuation
5 make a list of emergency vetinary offices near you, and keep a list of people to help you out with your fids. Also a list of bird friendly motels and hotels near you.
Any suggestions would be great ! Also is anybody else going to experience sandy ? What are you going to do to prepare ? How much damage do you think is going to happen ? Are you going to get evacuated ?
