Has anybody ever gotten an arm band for your parrot? I know my boy when he gets upset or just not sure of the situation likes to climb onto my arm and dig in with his talons. When I'm not wearing a sweater (which is most of the time) it hurts!

So I was thinking of getting an arm band that I can wear so he can hold onto it or just so he can't dig into my arm. Kind of like the guys that deal with birds of prey wear.

My question is does anybody know where I can buy one online?

mikesfalconry probably has them

Haven't heard of one, but I know some owners have used the wrap you get from Walmart or some other place for injuries... knee/ankle/wrist.... you could use some on your arm? And it's like a dark skin tone color?

I looked at the ones on Mike's Falconry and I think I can get creative and make my own so I'm going to take a shot at it. If it all succeeds I'll post a picture of it

I bought material and eyelets to make my own but haven't done it yet

Thank you!! This is exactly what I was looking for!

Doves, I just checked out the link for Foster & Smith. I don't want to sound negative, but I would HIGHLY recommend AGAINST this arm band/wrist protector because the eyelets (where the drawstring goes through) is made of metal other than stainless steel.

All my fids have a thing for my hoodies (which I love to wear), but the first thing each and every one of them goes after are the eyelets AND the metal zipper. :( I no longer wear them around the birds as I am terrified one of them will accidentally swallow either an eyelet or a piece of the zipper.

You could turn it around so the eyelets are under you arm~

That's a very good point, Wendy. I can't find any reference as to the material the eyelets are made from (the D-ring is simply described as "metal"). But my guess is that if the eyelets were made from stainless steel the manufacturer would have most likely included that fact in the description. A companion bird's ingestion of a small object that contains any of various toxic materials, such as zinc, can easily result in the bird's death. Before purchasing the sleeve, I would at the very least contact the manufacturer to learn which materials are present in both the eyelets and the D-ring. (Note: The D-ring can of course be removed and replaced with a stainless steel ring, or simply eliminated.)

And speaking of zinc...

Brass is an alloy that contains zinc. Some bronze (also an alloy) contains zinc as well. Eyelets, Bolts, screws, and other fasteners that are made from regular steel are often flash-plated with zinc. It's a good practice to use stainless steel around our parrots whenever possible.

I don't think I will have much trouble with Phoenix going after the eyelets. I've already worn shirts and sweaters with them and he hasn't paid them any attention what so ever! He does although LOVE draw strings on hoods :p

I did contact them though just to be safe and they are stainless steel not metal. I know he's fine with stainless steel because he has a mirror in his cage that is stainless steel and he's just fine with it.

Very good. And the most important thing is that stainless steel is non-toxic to parrots.

Yup, I thought of that too when I saw the rings that the lace went through and the D ring. So when I asked them how the shipping went I asked them that too. The best thing about that website is from 7am till 8pm they have people on their so you can talk to a live person and ask them questions.

Just thought I would throw this into the mix. I know when Rosie was a baby her talons were really sharp. Once I got her home I put two different sand perches in her cage and they seemed to file her talons right down. I can't remember the last time I thought her talons were sharp. She really only spends about 2 hours or so during the day and sleeps at night in her cage. It seems to do the trick anyway. If that worked for you, you may not even need an armband.
P.S. Your baby is beautiful!!

kendrafitz Phoenix does have sand perches in his cage and his talons are still sharp, I've even tried clipping his talons with nail clippers (a suggestion from another user) and that didn't work either. I do bruise easily so it might just be me.
