Pak o Bird or Birdie Go Go?

Hi everyone,

So I am very lucky to have found someone who sells both the Pak o Bird and Birdie Go Go travel backpacks in my country (it took a lot of searching). She has offered to keep both a Pak o Bird and a Birdie Go Go for me while I make a decision on which I want... I am so torn on which to pick!

I know the Birdie Go Go is a bit more lightweight, and doesn’t have all the features of the Pak o Bird. I have also heard that birds can see better out of it because of its design. I have also read that the Pak o Bird can be quite heavy.

However, the Pak o Bird would certainly be more spacious for my birds, at least I’m assuming it would be, and this extra space may be essential in ensuring they have a pleasant experience when out and about.

All of this needs to be kept in mind when considering that I have 2 budgies and a cockatiel, which affects the size of the backpack.

So, the question remains, which do I choose?

The Pak-O-Bird is designed to be a comfortable backpack and can also be carried with the included shoulder strap. It can be worn on your back or chest. It also folds flat for storage. The Pak also has flaps for all the windows (except the rear one) so taking the bird out in the cold or closing it off if it's getting noisy or whatever is simple. The Pak-O-Bird is heavy duty and has protection inside to keep the zippers covered so the bird cant chew it.

Because of the design, I think the Pak would be more durable for a chewer.

I know nothing about the Birdie go.

Word of caution, the larger sizes of the Pak-O-Bird are quite large and might be uncomfortable to carry depending on your size. When I was deciding between a medium and small, I got the dimensions off the web sight and made a cardboard mock up of each and I'm glad I did. The medium was much larger than the small and since my bird would fit in either I wisely chose the small.

What size are you considering? best thing would be to be able to see both before you purchase.

Pack o bird. I have both and the birdiegogo is great for a short outing but it doesn't have a place for the water bottle which is needed for a longer outing. I do offer Ollie water in a cap but in the car that can get complicated if your driving. Pack o bird!

Another vote for the Pak-o-Bird. It is very well designed; you won't be disappointed.

For other Nothern Pak-O-Bird owners. I happened to notice today that they sell windproof fleece covers for the Pak-O-Bird. I may pick one up after Christmas for when I need to take Nike out when it's 10°F.

You already know my vote. Birdie go-go for me. I have the pak-O-bird and two go-gos. I find the medium size pak-o-bird cumbersome. Both are well made and both have great designs. I suppose if I was going to do a longer trip the pak-O-bird may be a better choice because of the water bottle hole but for shorter trips I will always choose the go-go. I dont carry it as a backpack though so my main issue with the pak o bird is the top handle which when carried does not sit level but does with the go-go.

Agree with the previous comments and have a P O B. as your birdies are smaller than mine (RB2) and less capable re serious chewing to it maybe the birdie go-go would suit better? I always get my hubby to wear the POB but they have taken steps to make them more comfortable for females. There is some weight to it btw and agree with Laylatoo re the carrying handle tips it forward. Good luck in your choice

Short trips or long excursions is definitely a deciding factor.

It's a tough decision because of price when you haven't seen either. I carry my small Pak-O-Bird by the handle to and from the car....the slight tilt doesn't bother the bird. The Pak has loops for a seat belt so you can secure it in the car.

If you are just going to use it for a carrier to and from the Vet etc than the cheaper Birdie GoGo...or even something cheaper than that might be best. I use mine for Hiking when camping so for long walks I think the Pak would be better.

If you look at Inger's posts she opted for the xsmall Pak and was able to travel on Airplanes. The Birdie gogo is too big for that as it won't fit under the seat of a lot of planes. I guess it's all about how you plan on using it.

The Celltei products are high quality so you cant go wrong with either as long as they fit your needs.

I have the Birdie go go and have been very pleased. Happy enjoys it also.

I did opt for the Pak. The go go also met the dimensional requirements for airline travel. I don’t think an XS would work for 3 birds. In all honesty, my decision process went like this:

Me: ohhh the go go comes in pretty colors!
Also me: but you can have her name embroidered on the POB and not the go go.
Me: oh right! POB it is!

So you might not want to use me to help with your decision.

That being said, even having used it once so far, I LOVE it. It does tip forward when carried by the handle, but as perches are roundish anyway, the bird can simply adjust to the new angle.

Another POB owner here. Salty took a 3 hour drive to see Amy and Jim and Beebe, each way, and he was fine in it. Well made and well designed.

It may not be useful for the OP, but I got a pak-o-bird for my eckie. I opted for the wide-medium, as I intend to take Remi on really long (8 hour!) drives to a holiday property we own, quite regularly.

I can't speak for the birdie-go-go but I'm really happy with the pak-o-bird.

It's very spacious and I love how they've designed it to be easy to clean, and easily configurable in terms of amount of light, perch height, and also have some spots to hang toys.

Might give a proper review once I've done a few trips in it.

Yes I ended up deciding to go with the Pak o Bird! Berry loves going for walks in her Pak, it was definitely the right choice.

Does anyone know if these packs (P o B or BirdieGoGo) allow any UV in while outside?
Or is the mesh too dense?
(Safety over UV penetration, of course, but both would be nice.).

That's what I thought too. You won't regret getting one despite the cost! We've had ours 3 or 4 years now and it's still in great shape. Kiwi loves it! He's very spoiled and as a bird owner, if you're going to spend frivolously, it obviously is going to be on your :07:
