Pair bonding and Parrots

Many thanks Jim, for providing this excellent document.

It provides many practices that we have come to use and believe in with our very special Amazons.

Again, thanks Jim!

Wow...good information.
Baby used to sleep in bed with my husband when she was younger....that might explain the beginning of the pair bond they shared....Baby would preen his beard....hump his shoulder...never mine. This makes a lot of sence to me. Time to watch the video!
Thanks for posting!

I have such trouble with this article. Much of it is not objectionable - don’t pet your bird, etc... - and possibly even helpful. Flock eating his often recommended here as a means of getting parrots to eat new things.

but I so strongly oppose this concept of physical closeness Generating the pair bond. If this were the case, any bird kept within a couple feet of each other would always get along.

It’s more what are you doing when you are close.

There is a fine line and this article doesn’t walk it very well.

I feel this is a good article! Although I don't agree with everything to a "T", I do agree with the fact that people often create the wrong kind of relationships with their birds and training can go a long ways into creating a healthier relationship!
