Anyone have any stories or advice on this?

Need to paint a room in a hurry, can't get the bird out of the house for a precation so I'm considering painting this room with windows open and door closed while Perjo is on a different floor of the house.

Okay, you are in the State of Ohio and the rest of us in North America and the upper mid-west we are have a Winter that does know what Winter means! That is in fact good news for what you 'need' to do!

If you are painting because of a need /want to change color that is good. If you are having problems with staining or any number of surface problems that require the use of 'high quality' Primer that's a real problem. A high quality Primer will require that you remove your Parrot(s) from the Home! NOTE: If you are having surface problems and choice not to use a Primer, understand that you will need to paint again, because Paint is not designed as a barrier product.

Location of the Parrot during Painting: The best location is in a room in a level below where you are Painting. Winter Basics! Warm air raise! If you locate your Parrot in the floor above, you multiple the amount of flues they are exposed too!!! If you are painting on the first floor, unless your basement is a day light view or a walk-out, you are better using a first floor room.

HVAC vent(s) in room that is being painted must be blocked off! Use painters tape to seal the incoming and exiting vents! This is a must!!! Otherwise you will fill the complete house with flues.

All Paints Off-Gas during drying. Use high quality water based paints! Paint formulations change every year to some degree. What was the lowest off-gassing paint last year may not be this year. Go to a Professional Paint Store, the same one that the Professionals Use. And, no the Professionals are not buying at a Big Box Store!!! The why is very simply, its the guy or gal behind counter! Ask them tons of questions about, which is the best paint for your specific needs!

IMHO, this is a very dangerous time of year to buy paint! Demand 'fresh paint'! Batch Code must be 2017!!!

Venting the room: Open an outside window in that room and place a window fan in the window. Set the fan at low and start painting! Have everything ready before you open the paint can! Once you start painting, no one opens that room's door to the rest of the house until you complete painting and have everything packed up! Assure the the paint can is sealed and consider using a plastic sticky wrap to enclosed any brushes, rollers, roller pan, etc. Be ready to take everything out in one load!

Target painting first thing in the morning so that you are done by noon and by late afternoon /early evening its dry!!!

Remember, the thicker the amount of paint you put on, the longer it takes to dry!!!

Enjoy!

I painted a second floor room, with two windows open, the door to the room closed and Perjo on the first floor on the opposite side of the house. Harmony paint from Sherwin Williams, no odor unless I stuck my face up to the roller or painted wall.

The biggest challenge was walking the paint can and tray through the room Perjo stays in and keep it out of her sight as she tends to take flight when she sees me carrying foreign objects larger than an atom. Wasn't succesful when taking the short step ladder through the room before I started painting. She took flight, landed nicely though on the dining room table on top of the color tile.

Guess what color?

African Gray. I **** you not, I wanted a gray, looked at their color grid, saw African Gray and said "this is a no brainer or a big hint from the man upstairs". This will be an office and also an alternative room for Perjo to be in from time to time during the week.
