Painting questions

Hello!

I have some questions about painting. I've been in my apartment over 3.5 years now, and I'm finally at the point where I can't stand to look at my bathroom walls or ceiling anymore. The paint is so cracked it looks awful. Of course I've been putting off calling the apartment complex because of the complexities with Jasper.

The apartment company knows I have Jasper so I asked them to send me all the details about how they'd do the paint job.

I was told they use regular Cisco Acrylic paint, commercial grade. They don't use any other products. She said the process is long - 3 days, since they have to sand between coats. I asked if they could do this with the bathroom door shut and she said it has to stay open so they have enough room, etc.

Can someone please tell me if it would be safe to have Jasper stay in my apartment while this is being done? I assume it's NOT (fumes) but wanted to ask since I have zero experience in this realm.

The problem is I have nowhere to bring him for 3 days, short of boarding him at the vet which will cost me a lot of money.

One option I thought of is maybe when I have to travel for work next (April) because I have no choice but to board him. Perhaps they could do the work then so he's out of my apartment. This seems like a big nuisance but I figure with the insane rent I'm paying they can at least give a fresh paint job in the bathroom now LOL.

Acrylic paint would not be my first choice for Parrot safety. But, for the apartment complex, the sealing properties of Acrylic paint will last them for years. So, I understand their choice. We had our new home bathrooms painted with Acrylic paint, but the paintings was completed weeks before we moved in.

Does the bathroom have a fan powered vent (that works!), connected to the great outdoors? If yes, this will remove the vast majority of any fumes. You will want to assure that the fan runs 24 hours a day everyday they are working on the bathroom and then likely a couple of days afterwards.

locate your Parrot on the same floor, as far away from the work as possible. If you have any known air leaks from the outside, commonly the area around windows, that is where you will want to position your Parrot. Near, but not in the draft.

I think waiting until your April work trip is the best move for you. For the most part, Jasper's safety during painting would depend upon the size of your apartment and the available ventilation. But if you have to board him in April anyway, why not just eliminate any uncertainty and wait until then?

Heck, that way you don't have to deal with the nuisance of smelling paint and tripping over supplies, either. Win-win. Lol

Thanks for the replies I hope I can schedule it in April, the problem is they don't work weekends and the event includes the weekend. Will see....otherwise I guess I can wait a bit longer lol.

Maybe they can put Jasper up in a vacant apartment unit? Or, do you have a neighbor tenant that would let Jasper stay for a visit?
