ive read in a couple places that parsley is deadly to conures, and other places dont mention that..do any of you feed your conures parsley?

and i thought i read somewhere that packing peanuts were ok for shredding toys, but my conscience is saying well, styrafoam cant be good for them...i dont know, is it safe for them to play with? i got a box shipped to me today with some but i have NOT given them to her yet incase my little voice is right.

the parsley thing seems odd to me. Many sources recommend cilantro and tout it's wonderful properties... Cilantro and parsley are very closely related and I'd be interested to hear if anyone has a proven/scientfic reason why one would be bad and the other fine... I've never given my bird parsley, mostly through lack of opportunity and a vague worry that it really is bad. My bird has had cilantro on many occasions with no I'll effects that I can see...

as for the packing peanuts, I know I would never give Ms. Beak styrofoam to shred. I wonder about the cornstarch-based eco-peanuts though. Not that many places use them, and there's still the concern of where they have been and what they've been in contact with. So I'd probabl still say no to peanuts. Anyone have an answer on the parsley?

i figured packing peanuts were bad lol but just incase, i ask a question.

i googled conures and parsley, and some are on the fence, say its toxic, and others think it should be ok but have never fed it lol. its ok for budgies to have it, so i dont see why it would be bad for a conure, unless its one of those specific species deals.

pretty much ALL lists say avocado is bad for your birds, but these same people saying it could be ok it could not, some would say that breeders feed avocado to their birds with no negative reaction..and its really just the flesh around the pit to avoid, the outermost being ok. if that were the case, i would think you would need to cut away the flesh of any fruit that touches the seed, no matter what kind it is. apples are good for your birds, but not the seeds, so in the same sence the flesh touching the seeds needs to be cut away. with conflicting things like this, its better to just avoid and be safe than sorry.

until i hear anyone who has actually fed it to their conure, or other parrot, i will avoid it for now. ill just give her cilantro if she takes it.

I have no idea about this either. It is in one of my books listed as toxic and in another it says it's ok in small amounts! I just steer clear of it because I figure that Cal enjoys the wide variety she has already. She has so many things that I could not pack them all into a week variety wise.

I wonder on a few things but usually just use judgement. I love making veg soup and Cal loves to share it, but the trouble is....leeks. I've read nothing on them being toxic, but when I chop them up, my eyes stream like they were onions, so if the soup has leek in it, Cal can't share. I just want to be safe and won't run the risk in case they have the same danger as the onion!!!! I will have to look it up some time for sure!

I have not come into any information that parsley is toxic. My bird has eaten some in the past and she is still here.
