alexandrines : Oxy, Bruno, prince (was princess)
well about 2 weeks ago Oxy lost his 1st tail feather, and I have been waiting anxiously for the 2nd. Prince lost his within days of each other, and after the first one dropped, u could see the 2nd was coming and was a great discomfort to him. Oxy has shown no signs of dropping his 2nd.
I just went over to the cage where oxy was sitting to play some ball with him, and this is i what i saw.

i went on a search and found it, so now i have both

measuring in at 23.5 cm, it is no comparison to prince's 35cm, but prince is 3yrs older.

they are beautiful feathers, its a shame my camera doesnt do the colurs justice. he looks so funny with his stubby tail, but going on how quickly princes has grown in, i dont think it will be to long before he has a pretty tail again. Bruno is the only one with a lovely long tail atm, but when i picked them up on feb 1st, bruno was the one with the stubby tail. :( i dont have his tail feathers

Aw that's so exciting! It really is a proud moment :) love his stubby little tail, they look so strange without their beautiful long tails.

Floyd's new tail feathers grew through so quickly and so much longer. Thanks for sharing.

i have noticed how quickly they grow back in with the other 2. i cant wait till oxy's grow back in. when i bought him home he had stress bars through those ones,so the new ones will tell me if i have done a good job :)

well just put some ink in them and turn them into pens.

Once tango's fell out, I think he decided he liked not having a tail...now he chews (doesn't pluck) them off after they get to a certain point.

I really hope that dosent happen. I love their beautiful long tails

I love their long tails...can't imagine having a short-tailed parrot, just really love the longer tail feathers. How old is Oxy?

Oxy is about 9months old. he is my little baby, but growing up so fast

Thanks Gemini...my 'baby' alex is now 7months old - I've been wondering about what age to expect his first molt. So I guess he *might* molt in another couple months perhaps.

You'll have to take photos of Oxy with his new tail feathers, when they come in :)

hahahaha that little tail is adorable!!! You will get use to it in time ;)

I am sure you must of been very surprised to see a tailless Oxy hehe :09:

Fargo lost all of his in december, and he had this tiny tail, it was SOO strange, it looked so odd, but then after a while i got used to it, and now in april it still isnt back to full length! but they do grow through very quickly

i think i was more excited then surprised, but he looks so funny with his little duck bum. i think its funny, i have 3 alex's all at different stages of their tail growth but none at full length. Bruno's is about 3/4 length, prince 1/2 and oxy is just starting. i can see the tips of oxy's new feathers, so i cant wait.
would love to see some pics of fargo with out his tail

Haha! Do you know how long it takes for their tails to grow back to full length? You should get a picture all side by side ;)

I never got one with his super short tail, just had a look, but i found one just before he lost his last medium one, but i put it next to a picture of when i first got him, and his tail was full length, about 3 times the length of his body hahaha So just imagine when he lost that last medium one, he only had the tiny short ones left :09: Now its pretty long, but not full :p
