Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
..Those are spoken words fro Amy. She LOVES going for rides. Arleen and I had a couple errands to run tonight so we took our little girl along for the ride. She sat on top of Arleens' seat,on the headrest, and started her mumbling and small talk as usual when she goes for a ride..she gets so excited lol.
Our first stop was the local dunkin donuts for hot chocolate and a plain munchkin for the girl. she only nibbled at that. The people were excited in seeing her <she has been there with me on several occasions> I I brought my camera for a couple pictures. One young lady behind the counter even asked if I would mind if she took a pic with her cell phone to show her husband, sure go ahead I said ;)

Our next stop was the local Wal-Mart for a pad lock for Arleens locker at her new job. I put Amy on the handlebar of the cart and off we went. I swear people must have thought she was fake and/or stuffed lol..no one really paid attention
A young Spanish couple however with a son of maybe 7 or 8 did see Amy and were very excited asking all sorts of questions. As son as the young boy started to speak to Amy,out went her tail, fluffed up her face, and just started to chat away..HELLO! HOW ARE YOU??? in a very loud, and CLEAR voice :green: Amy gets so excited when she hears children talk or laugh :D
In summer when the living room windows are open and kids cut through my front yard and are talking and laughing,She always gets so excited, yelling everything she knows at the top of her lungs, but NEVER screams.

The boy was so excited he asked his mom and dad if they could get one lol.
It was a good night out for her!

he sat on my shoulder and looked out the front window the wholl time.
sounds like you and Amy had a good time, hope I can do that sort of thing with my YNA bingo soon.

Yes Amy had a blast! I started out when she was very young. I originally got her to ride with me in the tractor-trailer I owned! I took her out with me on a couple short, local runs, but then realized where/how was I going to make a place for a cage?? My truck had a sleeper berth to it,so there was room...but the bouncing and banging from the road would have thrown her food and water all over the place lol.

So I continued bringing her for rides in my car. I had a car which had a sun roof..to open the roof you pulled on a handle to open and lock the roof. <WAY before electric ones we have now>.
The car had high-back bucket seats and she would sit on the top.
One day,she reached out with her beak, got on the handle, and was swinging back and forth UPSIDE DOWN lol and chattering away like a crazy bird.
We were at a stop light and I hear SCREEEECH!!! of the car behind me.she almost plowed into the rear end of my car! She told me she was trying to figure out what the heck that "green thing" was upside down, swinging to and frow LMAO :54: :D Wasn't paying attention to her driving.

Hey Jim, is Amy clipped, no harness when you go out?

We got Monty in winter and would like to take him out once summer comes, but harness training so far has been interesting.

Our DYH Amazon (Julio) loves riding. Prior owners summered in Northern Michigan and wintered on the coast in southern Texas. So prior to his coming our way, he was a long time rider. Loves the sunroof (glass) and especially sunny days. No need for the radio, he fills the mid-size SUV with lots of Amazon chatter.

Lots of car stories with other drivers seeing Julio and then the fun begins!

Amazon's Have More Fun!

So much fun to watch a happy zon out in public:D What a beautiful bird your Amy is, and I'm glad everyone had a good time out and about.

Kiwi also loves going out. Once we felt he was ready, the bird took to being in new environments like a duck to water. He goes nuts for the car, hikes, the lake, going into stores and the one that really gets me, he LOVES riding the max train. Funny birds these amazons;)

Yes Scott,Amy is clipped..she was just done a couple weeks ago when she went for her wellness check. In the winter time I let her feathers grow back, seeing how she wont be going anywhere anyways.

I think in the years I have had her,she has "flown" three or four times, and it was because she got startled, and didn't make it too far anyway. I really think she doesn't KNOW how to fly lol. She has never made an attempt outside, but like I said, she is well clipped when she goes out. The poor girl falls like a rock

Thanks Jim,

Yes, Monty is good at falling like a rock is well. Saw him go about 15' once when he was startled, but that was it.

Good to know what is working for others.

Jim, do you harness Amy outside? My train in in that area with the Salt bird is not going well, he hates it.

Great story, Jim! Amy is a beauty, no doubt she attracts attention during an outing!!

I love the pics, Amy is so beautiful and happy in your pics. I love how you take her out.

No,Amy is not in a harness. I do have one that I got from TOM for The Cockattoo Man,but Amy is a lot more "heftier" :54:  then Jonesy was,so I doubt it would fit her

But when we do go outside, she has never shown any indication of being apprehensive <she is with Daddy..why should she? lol> And her arms are ALWAYS clipped GOOD..thats a reason I take her to her doc's for grooming. Don't want to push my luck..yanno?
