I know we weren't supposed to get another bird but we both fell in love with this 3 month baby so we took him home and named him Malachai.

He's beautiful. I had a feeling you were suffering from MBS. lol Congrats on your new baby.

ROFLMAO!!!! I couldn't resist when he lay his head on my shoulder....the lady said I was the only one he hop onto and give me lots of love. She couldn't even get him out of the cage. He came right out for me when we were in the car. :)

thats amazing i heard they were super rare, what an amazing find! he looks like such a sweeheart, it realy sounds like the bird picked you, congrats :)!

We placed him in a temporary cage until we get him a bigger one. He's already playing with his new toys and eating his fruits and his nectar powder. A brand new learning experience for both of us since I've never ownered a Lory. :)

Ok, I'm a bit annoyed! I've been around enough baby birds to know better. Malachi is not totally weaned! The lady was nice and all, she was selling him for a friend so I don't blame her. But he was constantly begging to be fed. So I mixed up nectar for him to drink from a bowl and he was going berserk crying for more. Now his little tummy is all full he can sleep better! I'm glad that it was me who got him cause someone else who doesn't know any better probably wouldn't know what to do....I just found out his hatch date is 7/11/11 so he's not even 3 months old yet...I guess we can build a stronger bond since I'm feeding him....

I'll take more pictures of him when I can. I'm having a bit of a issue with him right now constantly begging to be fed. I just ordered him a large bag of Nectar cause NO store around here carries them. Some of them used to but stopped carrying them so I was forced to purchase it online instead. It should be here in a few days I hope cause he's one hungry baby!!! He won't stay on his play stand, he wants to be on me at all times. I got him a extra bowl today so we're trying to get a on regimen of feeding nectar in one dish, fruits and veggies in one, and water in the other. I'm kinda stressed and upset at the moment from shopping everywhere for his nectar and reading up on different brands. Then him crying and begging me to feed. Then my 4 baby tiels would be ready to start the handfeeding process on Tuesday. Plus work 12 days of 12hr shift before I get a break....The thing that stress me the most is Malachi crying, it breaks my heart to hear him cry so I give him what he wants....Right now he's licking the nectar in his bowl so I'm getting a break. Plus all the birdies are going to bed so it's a little me time before bed...lol

Oh wow he is sooo beautiful.!! congrats on ur new addition to the flock too.

My partner wanted to have a black bird for years plus its my b-day soon so he's my b-day present. Malachai loves both of us especially me so I couldn't say no to him. Like it was said, he did choose me and he sucker me in....lol

There really isn't a whole lot of info on Lory and Lorikeets online. Anyone else owns one in here other then me? If you google Black Lory my post comes up with a few other posting, very little info online!

Mike, I am a aussie and I joined an Aussie Forum (a rather small one) and the members are predominately Lory owners/breeders/lovers. They would be more than willing to help a Black Lory living in the States. These people are very passionate about their birds. Let me know and I will Pm you the web site address.

Finally took some pictures of Malachai, very hard to take his pics cause he doesn't stay still and wants to be behind my neck the whole time...

So does malachi have a coloured tail? Or is it from the plant in the background? He looks so little, very cute little fella. Has he weaned yet, or is he still "begging" Glad to see it looks like things are going well for you guys.
