Our Lorikeet hates my boyfriend

Hi everyone!

My partner and I got a Rainbow Lorikeet and its name is Pickles. Apparently he is three years old and we don't know much about its past, cause we got it from a woman who got it from somebody else. We believe it is a t.h. moluccanus.
When we got him from the woman she told us that it is not tame and we have to wear gloves, because it bites.
We believe that she wanted to get rid of him because he is very, very noisy (she told us the food is too expensive, which is not true and she had another Lorikeet but they hated each other).

However, the day we got him (not sure if it is a male, but he acts as if) he fell in love with me. He is a bit frightened, but very cute.
He jumps on my finger, sits on my shoulder, wants to feed me and in a good moment I can cuddle him and it is getting better every day!
Unfortunately he only likes me. He hates my boyfriend. He won't come to him and tries to get as far away from him as possible. It sees as if he is actually scared of him.
When he sits next to Pickle's cage the bird starts talking. We wouldn't talk to me, he is quiet then.

The biggest problem is the noise. When I am at work and not in the house and he is alone with my partner he rarely comes out of his cage and he does this horrible squiek noise which goes right through your brain and that for hours without stopping for five minutes.....:30: (I work shifts....so we are always at home at different times).
My poor partner is going mad....

What can we do? Any tips?

Hi Annika!

I have a similar issue with my Scaly Lorikeet (Izzy). We bought her from a spe******t pet store as a family bird but due to the fact I wasn't working or studying at the time I had her out of the cage most days. We also had a scare with a family of pythons that moved in under our floor boards....needless to say I freaked out and moved my chirpy friend into my room.

Basically she has 'bonded' with me and we are now a 'flock'. Whenever she is on my shoulder and someone hugs me or touches my arm Izzy instantly hops down to the point of contact and 'attacks'.
Same can be said if we are in my room and someone walks in. My sister/mum/dad/brother/bf will knock on my door and come in, Izzy instantly goes into fit of chirping, shrieking, gaggling and ruffling her feathers.

After researching bird behaviour etc I've worked out that she SERIOUSLY considers either me a bird or herself a human. She does to me what she would do in the wild with her flock. My sister touching my hand is too close and needs a peck to say 'back off'. When people come into my room the shrieks/chirps etc are to warn me that there is an intruder.

My mum and sister can't touch me and Izzy refuses to go anywhere near them while I am there but when I do go to work or leave the house for the day both my mum and sister can take Izzy out of the cage without a problem. She'll sit on their shoulders and play with them the same way she does with me but the minute I walk back in the door she goes beserk and bites whoever is in the way between her and I.

My advice would be to your partner...get him to take Pickles out while you are away. Just start off with taking Pickles out of the cage, using fave fruit as a bribe, and sitting on the floor. If he can sit there and have Pickles hopping around I reckon they'll get closer over time. Pickles has to acknowledge Luke as a friend and not an intruder or someone that is going to 'hurt' you.

I'm still working on getting Izzy to befriend my family members while I'm in the same room!
