CHEESECAKE (Pineapple~GCC) 2/4/14
Smokey has been chasing Prissy around lately and I realized that he was pulling her tail feathers out night before last. So I went yesterday and bought another cage for Prissy and separated them! While we were there we saw two Parakeets that were snuggling and couldn't resist! They lady at Petco asked if we would like to adopt adopt a special needs Parakeet. Who could say no??? This poor baby has a messed up foot. But, she is the sweetest baby ever!

I know a lot of you are against chain pet stores and for the most part I am too. But this particular one is AWESOME with their animals...especially their birds! They take them out daily for time out of the cage and to get them used to being held (one at a time). Britney, one of the workers there even starts training the Conures as soon as they come to the store.

We Brought them all home and had them set up in no time! Was able to put the parakeets in right away because they had not gotten any new ones since we brought our others home. Except for the special needs one... She has her own cage with everything very low so she can get around. She will always be in her own cage alone.

We named them Cloud, Grace and Lovey-Dovey (the special needs one) I will try to get some pics today they are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!

Awwwww... big hugs for taking in a special needs baby. Can't wait to see pics!

Aww, congratulations! Can't wait to see pictures:)
There is something about the special needs ones that pulls at my heartstrings - we have a few ourselves, can't ever say no to them:)

So, where are the pics? :D

Budgies are quite entertaining little birds! I think you have now officially entered the realm of the "Crazy Bird Lady"!!!! LOL Grats on the new little ones!

Thank-you all!

however, it has not been a good morning. One of our Parakeets has been having seizures all morning. He is definitely passing away we are just sitting here with him to let him know we love him and he is not alone.

We called Petco and they said they would take care of any vet bills and gave us the number to the vet they use. I called them and there weren't any vets working today and gave me the numbers to several vets. I have called them all and more (including the one I use for all my other birds). All of which say the same thing....no vet's until Monday! Several asked what was going on and I told them to which they said there was nothing that could be done even if there was a vet available.

:smile016:

Sorry to hear that. :( I wonder what's causing the seizures?

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that:( I'm so glad you are there to comfort him, poor little guy.

Oh Chelle - I'm so so sad for you! I started reading your thread and was looking forward to piccies of your new babies , and now I'm near tears :(

Thank you everyone. He passed away this evening. It was a long day for the whole family. He was not alone through any of it. we were all there with him showing him what a loving family he had however short his time with us was.

I'm sorry to hear!!! You need to have necropsy done on this baby just in case!!! Especially if petco is gonna pay for it, IF something is wrong you need to let them be aware of it cause it could be something contagious and they would need to treat all their birds.
