Dusky Headed Conure
Oh, such a beauty....one of which I had never before witnessed.....
"Bird" was her name, she had been a birthday gift for a 12-year-old girl named Charlie. She became a fire fighter and needed Bird (a lovely Dusky headed conure) to have a new home, where she'd get the attention that she truly deserved.
Chickpea (another of her names) went through several homes and didn't find the right fit for her and Charlie tried again, with a couple named Eric and Ricky. They took to her like gentle loving flock mates. Bird had never truly liked the people she had been with besides Charlie. She loves them so much.
She was more of Rickys Bird and Eric traveled and came there as often as he could. He had never before been in such company. She eventually accepted him into her flock with Ricky, as Eric had been in another town when Ricky got her from Charlie. Bird got loved double well and could hardly contain her joy and radiance.
Although their time together in the physical was rather short (a little over a year) The amount of space beyond that was profound. Eric worked from home and a little down the road, so he got much time with her. They played and danced and spoke with one another avidly. and she groomed them and preened and clicked away with her cute little clicking sounds. She even nestled on their hearts as she had been hand raised and now turned 16. Strangely the same age as the couple's relationship.
There is much much much more that I would like to reveal, however, she got sick, and they thought her belly bulge was from overfeeding not inflammation. They took her to the veterinarian and the words were grim and lots of money was the solution for diagnosis, where she may die on the table as she was fighting it pretty hard and had almost stopped breathing.
They took her home and prayed, got groups to pray for her and also healed her with the medicine from the doctor and healing energies. Nearly everything that they could do, they did. She fought hard and she layed in an incubator that was keeping her going as well as the summer storms loomed outside. She passed while Eric was at work. He has never been the same since.
Well, that was 9 months ago, and I(Eric) have created a song sung daily and children's books and paintings and we are still close in another way. I am struggling with continuing them into their next drafts and finishing some. I am also making parrot toys now and soon when my manzinita cures, I will create perches. Both of my grandfathers passed too in the similar time frame as her in the last year. She made a profound impact on me and my evolution with this species. I would love to help in bigger ways with the parrot paradox of not being able to go home and most surrender them back to stores and worse.....how can I help?

Welcome to the forums, @weaving wolf, and thank you for sharing Bird's story. Losing a "heart bird" like that is so very hard, and I'm sorry for your loss but it's wonderful that you're finding ways to honour her life. I hope you will share some photos of her too, she sounds like a beautiful bird who was blessed with lots of love in her life!
