Our babies former Mama is Wonderful!

I just had to put this out there.....

We adopted Chiquita and Junior earlier this year from a nice family who just didn't have the time for them anymore.

We said we would stay in touch, but having adopted before...and never hearing from the previous owners again....I wasn't sure if that would in fact be the case....

We have exchanged emails ( I send pictures) a couple of times, but I hadn't heard from them in a while....so I thought maybe they had gotten busy with life, and moved on.....

Well, I got an email night before last, asking how they were doing....(the same night Chiquita finally realized she could fly ). Their former Mama, misses them, but is happy that they are with us, and being taken good care of.....she had misplaced our address and wanted to send them Christmas presents....and some for our other 2 too......It makes me feel good to know that they truly were cared for and about, even before they came to us.....but my heart hurts a little for her, cause I can't imagine life without them, and this is the first Christmas she won't be with them.....

I just wanted to share....mostly because sometimes I forget that not all rehomes are unwanted or abused......sometimes a truly wonderful person just has to make a hard decision....God bless those that make the best choice for their babies.

Thank you for taking the time to post this. I think that sometimes people on this forum are very mean and judgmental about people who need to re-home their birds and this is a good reminder that there are people trying to do what is best for their birds--even when it means giving them up.

Yes, thankyou! I gave up 4 of my budgies and it was so hard. I balled my eyes out all the way there and home and still get upset now, they wern't that interactive with me, but still my babies.

Glad both Mamma's love and spoil this bird and that mamma #1 hadn't just forgetting him.

I often get annoyed at the mentality that you dont give up your birds EVER and if you do give them up you are a terrible person and should never own another bird.

Sometimes life can change in an instant and you never would have known such a change could occur so swiftly.
Even those who lost contact, may not have been horrible people, they may have loved their birds as well but not having them around and watching someone elses joy at having them may have been too much to bear.

And because they give up a bigger more complex species doesnt mean they shouldnt go out and get themselves something more appropriate to their new life situation either. They still have love to give the right bird and so they should! I couldn't imagine my life without pets.

Thanks for that. We're having a bad time with a 38 yr old zon who a lady gave to us 5-6 yrs ago. We talk with the old owner 5-6 times a year and send picture.videos,vet reports etc. Today we had to talk about chemo for the poor bird and issues like quality of life. We offered to ship the bird back to her for some time with her mom before it got too late. This lady never wanted to give up her 30 yr old pet but had little choice, i know it's a pain she deals with every day. Like the rest of us, you can only do the best you can. Both of us know that bird has been so much happier in the last few years of it's life because someone cared enough to do what was right.Thank you to the folks who care enough to make the right choices. If you can't do right by your bird, do all you can to find someone who can.

Having been in Animal Welfare & Rescue most of my life, I have seen just about every scenario possible. This continued caring after re-homing happens more than you think. When pets are given up due to health, hardship, or other situations, the original owners are doing what they feel is best for that animal. It really is an admirable thing to not be so selfish, and keep a pet when you cannot properly care for it. We hear so much of the bad side of this. It is refreshing to hear a good re-homig story.
